David Březina is a Czech type designer, academic, and art director from Brno. He is the founder and managing director of Rosetta Type Foundry.[1][2] He is known for his work in multi-script typeface design,[3] including the Skolar and Skolar Sans font families.[4][5]
Březina founded Rosetta Type in 2011, initially with support from TypeTogether.[6][7] Although Březina primarily publishes typefaces through Rosetta Type, he has also designed custom typefaces for clients including Adobe, Linotype (Monotype), Microsoft, and Google.
Březina's Latin, Gujarati, Cyrillic, and Devanagari type design has received numerous accolades, including from the European Design Awards[8] and Granshan.[9][10][11] Notable typefaces he has designed include Skolar Gujarati,[12] Nirmala UI Gujarati, Adobe Gujarati,[13] and Gridlite.[14]
Březina holds a PhD from the University of Reading, where his thesis entitled "Coherence in typeface design: visual similarity of characters in Cyrillic, Devanagari, and Latin" was supervised by Mary Dyson and Fiona Ross.[15]
