drinking game - the name game / famous people
game begins with everyone with beverages sitting in a circle... play generally starts in the clockwise direction... generally the person who brings the gane to everyone's attention and explains the rules starts by stating the name of a famous person... famous people can be from: entertainment... sports... politics... literature or movies ( authors or characters )... current events... world leaders ( good or bad )... history... cartoon characters... you get it... NOW... the next player must say the name of a famous person who's first name starts with the same letter as the last name of the famous person the person before them just said... sounds complicated, but it's not... like so...
curly howard > hank aaron > arnold palmer > patty hearst > herman munster > martin short > sally fields > frank zappa > ziggy marley
if a player is stumped they must drink their beverage until they can think of a famous name that fits the pattern... this is know as the "drink while you think" rule... which is not harshly enforced ( it's a game and the purpose is fun )... but sometimes chanted by the other players to create peer pressure and badger the person to get it together and keep the game rolling...
once a famous name is used in the game it can't be used again... unless a player can verify that there is actually another famous person with the exact same name... example: james brown - the R&B singer and james brown - the CNN sports desk personality...
now... if a player says a famous name that the first and last names both begin with the same letter... the play reverses direction... examples:
donald duck... alan alda... sam spade... penelope pit-stop... tiny tim... mickey mantle > mickey mouse > minnie mouse > marilyn monroe
as you can see with the famous double M names... two players sitting side by side can become involved in a match-up of trying to outwit one another... the play can go back and forth for awhile until one or the other cracks and cannot come up with yet another famous name that the first letters of both the first name and last name are the same... generally people laugh... people drink... and the gane begins anew...
now single namned famous persons or characters create what is called a "social"... everbody takes a drink of their beverage... and the next person in the same direction of play begins the game anew by calling out another famous name... exampes of single famous names:
cher... madonna... prince... diddy... rambo... quincy... terminator... gonzo... elmo... kermit... R2-D2... sylvester... dumbo... tonto...
as the gane is all in fun it also serves as a GREAT way to meet people at a party that you didn't know before the party... and you can get a glimpse of their personalities through the famous names they use in play... so some people will be "jocks" and like sports... some people will be born entertainers and know movie stars or musicians... some people will know about politics or current events... so as the gane is being played... coversations ensue about the validity of a name thet gets thrown out ( catching a stumped cheater or someone claiming a regular person known by many at the party is famous )... and friendly verifications can come about too... like "diddy" for example... someone can claim that his real name is p-diddy or sean jean... but the reality is that all of those names... while being the same person are valid and all can come into play in the same game !
