The DİTİB Kocatepe Mosque and cultural center in Ingolstadt (Turkish: Kocatepe Camii ve Kültür Merkezi İngolstadt; German: Kocatepe Moschee und Kulturzentrum zu Ingolstadt) is the main mosque of Ingolstadt and the biggest in all of Bavaria. The construction was finished in 2008 and costed 5.5 Mio. Euros.[1]
Association
[edit]The Turkish-Islamic association of Ingolstadt was founded on May 12 of 1987 by DITIB and has 540 members.[1]
Mosque
[edit]The mosque is inspired by Ottoman architecture, has two minarets, both around 27.5 meters tall, a big dome, around 5 meter tall and three floors. The prayer room with white and blue carpets[2] fits 800 people in it and has a gallery floor for the women, around 135 m² big, on the top. The mosque's walls are deocrated with different calligraphy.[3]
Cultural center
[edit]The cultural center is 611 m². In the basement, in addition to storage and sanitary facilities, there is a mortuary for funeral ceremonies and washrooms for Wudu. On the ground floor there is a grocery store, a restaurant as well as the club premises. On the first floor there is a youth room, a library, women's rooms and children's rooms as well as lecture rooms and office rooms.
A 420 m² big building next to the center has a Quran school as well as two apartments, one for the imam and one for the janitor.[4]
