Draft:Coastline Academy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coastline Academy is an American company specializing in driver's education for teens and adults, including behind-the-wheel training, online driver's education, and classroom driver's education. As of 2024, Coastline Academy operates in eight states, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Texas.[citation needed]

Company

[edit]

In 2022, Coastline Academy was named the 6th fastest-growing education company in America by Inc.[1] The company is noted as being a "driver education provider modernizing the experience with a seamless booking process, modern cars and professional instructors."[1]

History

[edit]

Coastline Academy was founded in 2017 by Nigel Tunnacliffe and Matthew Harvey, who met while working in the technology industry in the Bay region of Northern California.[citation needed] Tunnacliffe and Harvey originally established Coastline Academy with the intent of retrofitting older vehicles with self-driving technology, with the stated goal of eradicating car crashes. In interviews with new drivers, however, Tunnacliffe and Harvey discovered the projected market for their technology was focused more on issues surrounding driver's education, such as tardy or distracted driving instructors.[2]

Fleet

[edit]

Coastline Academy teaches in-car lessons using a fleet primarily comprised of about 300 late-model Toyota Corollas.[3]
