Chitrapuri colony, a residential colony in Manikonda is located close to the IT corridor in Hyderabad, Telangana. There are 4000 flats and the colony is divided into 3 segments: LIG, MIG, and HIG. The 3 groups of apartments are arranged at different heights on a hill with LIG on the bottom and HIG on the top. There came to several allegations at the time of the allocation of flats that only 20 percent of them were being allocated to cine workers while others were being sold for profit.[1]

History

[edit]

It was initially formed to construct permanent houses for Telugu cinema workers. 66 acres of land were allocated to the Telugu Cine Workers Cooperative Housing Society (TCWHS) for this purpose at a nominal cost by the Andhra Pradesh government when the two states Andhra and Telangana were together. Dr. Prabhakar Reddy, an actor, writer, and producer, made this possible by convincing the then Chief Minister Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy to allocate 66 acres of land for housing laborers. He even donated ten acres of his land near Gachibowli to this cause.[2]
