Ché Chesterman was born on August 18, 1996, in Basildon, Essex. Before his rise to fame on X Factor, he worked at a local supermarket stacking shelves and studied music in college.[1][2]
Che Chesterman has always credited his father, Che Chesterman Senior, as his greatest inspiration and the driving force behind his music career. Che Senior, who was a talented musician himself, taught Che everything he knew about music and was a constant source of support and guidance. Che often recalls how his father would call him to offer advice and practice songs together, especially during his time on the X Factor. Tragically, Che Senior passed away suddenly, but his legacy lives on through Che’s dedication to his craft. Che has publicly expressed that his father’s passion for music and his unwavering support are the reasons he pursued a career in music, and he continues to honour his father’s memory in every performance.[3][4]
Ché is in a relationship with Brodie Smith. The couple got engaged on October 31, 2019, and they share three children together.[5]
X Factor Journey
[edit]Ché auditioned for The X Factor UK in 2015. The judges for that season were Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora, and Nick Grimshaw.[6][2]
Ché Chesterman appeared on week 2 of the X Factor auditions at the age of 18. Initially planning to sing a Sam Smith song, Ché was asked by Simon Cowell to perform his alternative choice, Jessie J’s “Who You Are.” Ché’s powerful rendition of the song captivated the judges and earned him a standing ovation from Simon Cowell. His soulful performance showcased his impressive vocal range and emotional depth, leaving a lasting impression on the panel. All four judges unanimously voted “yes,” advancing him to the next stages of the competition.
Ché’s audition was a turning point, as it not only highlighted his talent but also his ability to connect with the audience and judges on an emotional level. His decision to follow Simon’s suggestion and perform “Who You Are” demonstrated his versatility and willingness to take risks, qualities that would serve him well throughout the competition. This memorable performance set the stage for Ché’s journey on the X Factor, where he continued to impress with his unique voice and heartfelt performances. He was mentored by Nick Grimshaw and was part of the Boys category.
During the X Factor live shows, Ché Chesterman faced a challenging moment when he forgot the lyrics to Adele’s hit song “Hello.” This incident occurred during the quarter-finals, where Ché was performing a song chosen by the public. As he began singing, he stumbled over the words in the first verse, leading to an awkward pause. Despite this setback, Ché managed to regain his composure and continued with the performance, receiving support from the judges and the audience. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Rita Ora offered words of encouragement, emphasising that such mistakes can happen to anyone, while Simon Cowell was more critical, noting that it should have been a standout performance.[7][8][9]
Ché made it to the X Factor final, finishing in third place behind Louisa Johnson.[10]
The 19-year-old was eliminated from ITV’s annual talent competition after performing two live songs at London’s Wembley Arena.[11]
This dramatic exit meant that Louisa Johnson and Reggie N Bollie went head-to-head in the show’s grand final.
During his time on the X Factor, Ché Chesterman faced controversy when show producers reportedly advised him to lose weight. According to sources, the production team suggested various diet and exercise plans to help him slim down, believing it could enhance his appeal to viewers. Ché, who was committed to staying in the competition, took their advice seriously and was open to making changes. This situation sparked discussions about body image and the pressures faced by contestants on reality TV shows.[12][13][14]

Ché Chesterman has a close friendship with TOWIE star James Argent, who has been a significant supporter throughout his career. During Ché’s time on the X Factor, James publicly backed him, praising his incredible talent and urging fans to vote for him. Their bond has grown stronger over the years, and Ché now frequently performs with James in his band. The two share a deep love for music, often collaborating on stage to deliver memorable performances. James’s encouragement and belief in Ché’s abilities have been instrumental in his journey, providing both moral support and opportunities to showcase his talent.[15][16][17][18]
In 2024, Ché announced his plans to audition for American Idol, viewing it as his last opportunity to break into the US music market before reaching the show's age limit.[19][20]
