Carlos Lizarralde (Caracas, Venezuela) writer and entrepreneur based in Mexico City and Miami Beach. Author of Venezuela's Collapse: The Long Story of How Things Fell Apart, published in 2024 by Codex Novellus. Biography
[edit]After studying Politics and Literary Theory at Hampshire College, Lizarralde's academic career started in the Comparative Literature doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. While there, he taught undergraduate courses and co-founded technē group, a publisher and organizer of academic conferences.
Lizarralde went on to have a twenty-five-year entrepreneurial career in media, technology, and education, starting as co-founder of Venezuela's largest circulation weekly, Urbe. In the late 1990s, he co-founded and was CEO of loquesea.com, a content platform produced in nineteen countries and four languages. He is a co-founder at Fluenz, a digital language-learning platform also offering immersion programs in twelve Latin American and European cities.[2][3][4][5]
In 2024 he published Venezuela's Collapse: The Long Story of How Things Fell Apart, an exploration of the long-term historical trends behind the Chavista revolution. He has also written about the current politics of Venezuela from a historical perspective in Persuasion, Caracas Chronicles, and Papel Literario.[6][7][8]
