Employing around 500 individuals across multiple continents, the group comprises ten subsidiaries under the holding company Berndorf AG.[1].
The Berndorf Band Group is listed as one of the “28 Steel Belt Manufacturers in 2024”[2] and was nominated to be one of the top 10 Chemical Tech Solution Companies in 2021, which featured an article written about the company: “Berndorf Band Group: Delivering Customized and Comprehensive Steel Belt Systems”. In the article, it was written that ”Berndorf Band Group is a renowned full-service provider for steel belt supported processes.... is an international manufacturer of steel belt, belt systems, and supporting components. The company’s wide range of services includes planning, engineering, construction, and servicing of customized processing systems”[3].
History
[edit]Founded in 1843 in Berndorf, Austria, “Alexander Schoeller and Alfred Krupp signed a partnership deed to establish a metal goods factory, which would be erected in Berndorf soon afterwards”[4]. The Berndorf Metalware Factory[5], or “Berndorfer Metallwarenfabrik” was run by Arthur Krupp. His involvement led the company to evolve into an industrial entity. “He enlarged the plant to four times its original size, and left a business with a worldwide reputation”[6].
During World War I, the Berndorf Metalware Factory assisted the military by producing a variety of metal-based items, such as “field kitchens and steel helmets, as well as cartridge cases and shells”[7]
Post-World War I, the company diversified into Steel Belts and Steel Belt Systems production, manufacturing the first Copper Foil Casting Belt in 1923. In 1957, after the nationalization of the former German industrial property, the Berndorf factory was established as a branch of Vereinigte Metallwerke Ranshofen-Berndorf AG. The production of NICRO Stainless Steel Belts began in 1960, followed by advancements like longitudinal welding technology in 1965 and expansion into international markets, notably the USA and Japan, in the subsequent decades[8].

[edit]Today, the Berndorf Band Group offers a range of products related to Steel Belts and Steel Belt Systems. “The company caters to automotive, baking, chemical, film and foil, rubber and plastic, woodworking, laminate, food, paper and pulp, and transport industries. Some of the products delivered by the company include steel belt cooling flakers and cooling pastillators for various applications, powder coatings, sulphur solidification packages, freezing conveyors, continuous belt reactors, and feeding devices and discharge devices for steel belt machines”[3].
Services
[edit]The group provides comprehensive services including Steel Belt Service (i.e. assembly, maintenance, repair, and training for in-house technicians)[9]. Additionally, worldwide Belt Systems services like maintenance, remote support, and training programs are offered to customers[10].
R&D and Test Centers
[edit]Austria, North America, and Asia locations enable customers to test production processes and products. These centers house machines like the Modular Double Belt Press[11], a Pilot Caster and Single- and Double Belt Cooling Systems.
