Athens High School is a public high school located in Athens, Wisconsin. In the 2022-2023 school year it enrolled 124 students and had a student/teacher ratio of 9.76.[2] The school's sports teams are known as the "Fighting Bluejays."[3]
History
[edit]Athens High School's officially named distinguished alumni of include Tim Clinton, Class of 1996; Mitchell Marohl, Class of 1992; Lori (Schreiner) Zettler, Class of 1979; Lisa (Schreiner) McCord, Class of 1978; Kathy (Marchel) Heier, class of 1970; Carol Marchel, class of 1971; and Mary Ann Marchel, class of 1977.[4][5]
In 2023, the district was in danger of being shut down or having to consolidate its schools due to budget problems.[6] A referendum to increase property taxes to the schools passed solved this problem.[7]
Athletics
[edit]Athens High School competes in the Marawood Conference.[8] They have been Conference Champions once for boys' cross country, [9] once for girls' cross country,[10] ten times for volleyball[11], three times for boys' basketball,[12] two times for girls' basketball,[13]ten times for baseball,[14] thirteen times for softball,[15] twice for boys' track [16], and twice for girls' track,[17]
Because of low participation in football, the Athens football team switched from 11-man to 8-man.[18]
