Coaching career

[edit]

[edit]

In 2023, Cornwell was the offensive line coach at Oberlin College.[5]

NFL International Player Pathway Program

[edit]

As an offensive line coach, Cornwell has coached two classes for the International Player Pathway, run the National Football League (NFL), and was the first female football coach for the program. As of April 2024, one offensive lineman, Travis Clayton was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.[6] An additional three offensive lineman, Patrick Murtagh(TE), and Louis Rees-Zammit(RB) have signed free agent contracts.[7][8][9]

Wisconsin

[edit]

Cornwell became the first female football coach at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, in the Big Ten Conference, in the NCAA Division I, and in the power conferences as a student assistant coach with the Wisconsin Badgers starting in 2019.[10] Cornwell worked with the special teams units, the offensive line, the tight ends, and the defensive line while at Wisconsin.[11][12]

Bill Walsh Fellowships

[edit]

Cornwell participated in the Bill Walsh Minority Fellowship Program in 2022 as an offensive line intern with the Tennessee Titans, which made her the first female football coach in the organizations' history.[13][14] Cornwell was followed by Lori Locust who was the first full-time female football coach in the organization's history. [15][16] In 2023, Cornwell completed another internship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coaching the offensive line.[17] Cornwell recently completed another Bill Walsh Fellowship in 2024, coaching the tight ends for the Washington Commanders.[18][19]
