Andreas Sauer is a German entrepreneur and an asset manager. He has dedicated himself to researching and developing quantitative asset management methods and putting them into practice for the benefit of institutional investors.[1].
From 1983 to 1988, Dr. Sauer studied industrial engineering and management (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen) at the University of Karlsruhe. He then worked as a research fellow at the Department for Decision Theory and Business Research at the same university from 1989 to 1993. In 1993, he completed his doctoral thesis in Finance titled Factor Models and Valuation in the German Stock Market. He is also a CFA Chartholder [2] [3].
His professional career began at Dresdner Asset Management, where he worked from 1993 to 1996. He then joined DG Bank until 1999. In 1999, he co-founded Quoniam Asset Management GmbH. As CEO and CIO, he transformed this company into the most successful investment boutique in Germany over 13 years. When he stepped down in December 2012, Quoniam managed approximately EUR 18 billion in funds for global institutional investors, all managed exclusively using proprietary quantitative strategies[2][4] .
In 2014, he founded ansa capital management, a company specializing in systematic global macro strategies [3][4].
Sauer was also a founding member and board member of the German CFA Society e.V. from 2000 to 2012, where he served as Vice President before becoming President[1][2] . He is a regular speaker on various topics related to quantitative asset management and has been teaching about asset management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from 2014 to 2019 [3][1][2] .
Additionally, Sauer is a member of the board of INQUIRE (Institute for Quantitative Investment Research Europe), where he continues to contribute to the advancement of quantitative investment research [3]
