In 2014, he defended his doctoral thesis in Linguistics (with international mention) at UPV/EHU, under the supervision of Joseba Lakarra and Juliette Blevins. His dissertation, titled Towards a Phonetically Grounded Diachronic Phonology of Basque, was awarded the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award by the Basque Government.

In 2024, he obtained a habilitation in Linguistics from the Université Paris Cité with a dissertation on the typology of sound change.
