Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra; secular name: Alexandros Vafeidis, was a Greek Orthodox Archimandrite who served as Abbot of Simonopetra Monastery in Mount Athos from 1974 until 2000.[1]

Life

Alexandros Vafeides was born on October 5, 1934 in Piraeus, Greece.[2]

During his time as Abbot of Simonopetra, he helped to establish several monasteries that are all dependencies of Simonopetra. These include the Holy Convent of the Annunciation in Ormylia on the Greek peninsula of Chalkidiki,[3] and three monasteries located in France (St. Antonios south of Lyon, Agia Skepi in Solan and the Transfiguration in Terrasson).[4][5]

He passed away on May 9, 2019 in Ormylia.[6]
