Adam Furgal

Adam Furgal is a Canadian-British technology executive known for his work in enterprise technology, digital banking, and professional services. He has held leadership roles at organisations such as Barclays and R3 and is the co-founder of Fluid Technology Solutions, a consultancy specialising in artificial intelligence (AI) strategy and implementation for the financial services sector.

Early life and education

Furgal was born in Canada and has resided in the United Kingdom since 2007, holding dual Canadian and British citizenship. He earned a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of Manitoba between 1997 and 2001.[1]

Career

Online Business Systems

Furgal began his career at Online Business Systems, working in Winnipeg, Minneapolis, and Boston. He progressed from software developer to architect and practice lead within the company's professional services division. During his tenure, he worked with financial institutions including State Street, Investors Bank & Trust, Merrill Lynch, and FleetBoston Financial.

Barclays

In 2008, Furgal joined Barclays, a British multinational bank. He held several director-level positions within the organisation over eight years. As Director of Strategy and Transformation in the Personal and Corporate Banking Technology division, he developed and executed technology strategies. Later, as Director and Chief Agilist, he led an agile transformation, overseeing over 5,000 people and managing an annual budget of £1 billion.[2]

R3

In 2016, Furgal joined R3, a software firm specialising in distributed ledger technology (DLT) and blockchain solutions for the financial services industry. He served in leadership roles, including Head of Professional Services Sales and Head of Revenue and Field Operations. Furgal contributed to projects aimed at enhancing payment systems using blockchain technology. R3 collaborated with over 22 banks to create a blockchain-based payments system intended to rival existing networks like SWIFT.[3][4][5]

Fluid Technology Solutions

In June 2024, Furgal co-founded Fluid Technology Solutions, where he serves as managing director.[6] The company specialises in AI strategy and implementation for the financial services sector, focusing on bridging the gap between strategic vision and practical execution.
