In the 2024 French legislative election, no political coalition or party won an outright majority, resulting in a hung parliament. On 7 July, the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance, dominated by the radical left Unbowed France (LFI), emerged as the largest political force in the National Assembly on 180 seats, while the ruling centrist Ensemble coalition led by Emmanuel Macron's Renaissance only got 21 seats less on 159 seats. The right-wing populist National Rally (RN) party led by Jordan Bardella came third on 143 seats. As a result, protracted negotiations are expected to be required before a new government can be formed.
