History
[edit]122 Surveillance and Target Acquisition.[1] Regiment was raised at Haig Lines, Devlali[2] on 01 Sep 1979 as 122 Division Locating Battery. The professional acumen of the team was rewarded in May 1998 when the Sound Ranging Troop was converted to UAV[3] troop. The troop moved to Devlali in December 1998 to include ‘SEARCHER[4]’ Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in its inventory. The unit underwent a complete inventory overhaul and received Ground EO/IR Sensors in May 2005. Aerial Surveillance inventory of the Regiment was upgraded to SEARCHER MK-II[5] Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in October 2005. The Battery was subsequently converted to Surveillance And Target Acquisition Regiment (SATA) on 01 January 2006. In October 2014, 122 Surveillance And Target Acquisition Regiment moved to Jodhpur[6] and were equipped with first Indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle[7] (UAV), NISHANT[8]. In Oct 2020, as a part of Operation Rinpoche the unit’s sensors were actively deployed on High Altitude Areas posts along Line of Actual Control[9] (LAC). In 2022, during Operation Snow Leopard[10] this unit carried out Operational Deployment of EO/IR Sensor[11] detachments in inhospitable High Altitude Area (HAA) terrain of Eastern Ladakh[12]
