Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares (Barcelona, 1988) is a Spanish ethnobiologist specialized in the study of Indigenous Peoples and their contributions to biodiversity conservation.[1]
Research
[edit]He has published more than 90 scientific articles, in journals such as Nature, Trends in Ecology and Evolution, Current Biology, Global Environmental Change, People and Nature, or Conservation Letters, among others.[2] His research has focused on the roles of Indigenous Peoples in biodiversity conservation, through geospatial analyses, and consolidating empirical methodologies to document changes in traditional ecological knowledge systems.[3] His work is based on more than 30 months of ethnographic field-based experience with Indigenous and local communities in countries such as Bolivia, Kenya or Madagascar.[4]
He has participated in several intergovernmental processes on biodiversity within the framework of the United Nations.[5][6] His research has been linked to the work of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).[5] He is one of the 145 authors of the IPBES Global Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.[7]
