The Centre for Aerospace & Security Studies (CASS, Urdu: سینٹر فور ایروسپیس اینڈ سیکوریٹی سٹڈیز) is an independent research think tank founded by the Pakistan Air Force with specializations in the domains of aerospace, emerging technologies, security, and foresight.[1][2] It was inaugurated by Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan in July 2019,[3] with Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat as its first President. CASS's current president is Air Marshal Javaid Ahmed (Retd).[4] The primary campus of CASS is located in Islamabad, within the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP) at the Old Airport Road near PAF Base Nur Khan, while the secondary Lahore campus is located within the Lahore Cantonment.
Objective
[edit]CASS defines its vision statement as "to serve as a thought leader in the Aerospace and Security domains globally, providing thinkers and policymakers with independent insight on aerospace and security issues in a comprehensive and multifaceted manner."[5]
Areas of research
[edit]CASS specializes in the domains of aerospace,[6] aviation industry,[7] national security, doctrine, strategy,[8] history,[9] and economics.[10] Its contemporary areas of focus include aerospace, emerging technologies, security, and foresight. It publishes research in multiple languages including English and Urdu.[11] It also advises government stakeholders on key issues of national interest [12]
Biannual Conference
[edit]CASS' flagship conference is known as Global Strategic Threat and Response (GSTAR),[13][14] which is attended by the President of Pakistan as Chief Guest.[15][16] CASS publishes a peer-reviewed journal called the Journal of Aerospace & Security Studies, whose Editor-in-Chief is Dr. Usman W. Chohan.
