Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because categories do not require main articles to be valid, which was one of the arguments for deletion in the original discussion. As for the second point in that discussion, if the concept of "steampunk music" is too poorly defined to permit a category, I'd suggest moving this to one of the following:
- Category:Steampunk musicians
- Category:Steampunk bands
- Category:Steampunk-themed musicians
- Category:Steampunk-themed bands
There are plenty of groups that use steampunk style and imagery, even if the sound itself isn't clearly defined. —Torchiest talkedits 18:06, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because the grounds for deletion were unfounded.
- Categories do not require main articles to be valid, which was one of the primary arguments in the CfD discussion. There are a host of categories on Wikipedia which do not have main articles.
- Only one of the regular respected moderators in the steampunk genre was able to offer his opinion, and his vote was to keep it. At the very least this should have gone over to AfD, as was suggested, and had a longer period of contemplation and longer discussion before deletion.
- The initial point that brought up the deletion, that "there is no such thing as steampunk music" is somewhat valid. Even within the steampunk community, the music is hard to define, as there are many divergent styles. But while the concept of "what is steampunk music" is a hotly debated one,[1][2][3] steampunk music and steampunk musicians still exist and therefore the category should exist.
- There are a large number of steampunk musicians and bands who identify primarily with steampunk. While their sounds might be diverse (as the sounds within some other genres of music such as folk are diverse), they nonetheless consider themselves steampunk first and foremost and should not be disenfranchised from such a categorization.
- There is currently a discussion on the talk page of the main Steampunk entry on this subject on what to do with this category. This category is likely to be renamed in the near future. on the determination of the moderators there. This category should remain until the moderators there decide what to do with it, not simply dismissed. --Jonnybgoode44 (talk) 18:14, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because... per past discussion at CfD, although a definition of a coherent "steampunk music" is hard, there are clearly identifiable steampunk musicians requiring categorization through this. --Andy Dingley (talk) 19:09, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
