Category created to place one person in, Luis Fortuño. Highly unlikely to ever be populated apart from this (and Fortuno's descent is 5th generation!) CaptainScreebo Parley! 18:49, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedy deleted because... The current Governor of Puerto Rico, Luis Fortuno, is of Galician descent, as shown in the article citation, and should be included in this category. Galician is a specific ethnicity/cultural identity separate from the larger culture of the rest of Spain. The category has unfortunately been deleted from the Fortuno article in order to invalidate this particular category.

Simply because only one (known) person with an article currently qualifies for this category does not mean that the category should be deleted. Categories commonly include only one person. More importantly, categories also commonly include people whose heritage can be traced back several generations. Respectfully --Scanlan (talk) 20:24, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There are several other biographies of people from Puerto Rico who are of Galician descent as well. They have been added to the category, which should remain. Best regards. Scanlan (talk) 20:46, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It should also be noted that Puerto Rico was a major destination for Galician immigrants to the Americas, along with Cuba and parts of Spanish-speaking South America. Scanlan (talk) 23:41, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have removed the csd tag, this category was on the list of categories created by an over-enthusiastic editor who had some problems taking on board advice from other editors and is now blocked. A lot of the categories were trivial or improbable intersections, please see this list, and you will see how many have since been deleted.
I meant no offence, but 5th generation is a bit much to claim Galician descent, IMO, and there was only the one person (ok ok so he's the Governor), now that you have populated the category and a lot of the people are Spanish Gacilian/Puerto Rican there is no problem.
