Sorting by county doesn't sound like a very wise scheme, and against usual practice. By this logic Royal Docks would come under Category:Ports and harbours of Essex instead of London and London Docks under Middlesex; this would be ridiculous. Mrsteviec 06:53, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yet, User:Neddyseagoon has also made the Category:Ports and harbours of Tyne and Wear. Also Royal Portbury Dock is now in the Gloucestershire category, when it is clearly on the Somerset side of the Avon. This seems a particularly unhelpful way to categorise ports. 1974 counties would probably be more useful. Morwen - Talk 08:13, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A mixed categorisation scheme is even more problematic and I agree should be rationalised in favour of post-1974 counties. Mrsteviec 08:21, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What a gathering of experts!  :-) Historic counties was what immediately suggested itself, but the contents of each county category seems to be the post-74 ones, looking back. I'll admit I'm no expert on post-74 counties, so if someone who is could rationalise them into post-74 counties, that'ld be great, and I'll leave well alone! BTW, I don't think counties per se is unhelpful, as it allows each 'Ports and harbours of...' to then be a sub-category of 'Geography of...' the relevant county. It's only unhelpful when an ignoramus like moi picks the wrong set of counties! :-D User|Neddyseagoon 14:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
