[edit]Does anyone think there is any point to this category (which looks very odd to me)? What is an oil pipeline company supposed to be? Any oil company with a pipe?
Any defenders before it goes to MfD? --BozMo talk 12:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oil pipeline company is the company that construct and produce oil pipelines. It can be different or the same as oil (exploration) company. Because there are many business sectors in oil industries, such as exploration, refinery, transportation (oil tanker, including this pipeline), oil rig manufacturer etc. Chongkian (talk) 12:09, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
what they are
[edit]oil pipeline companies manage oil pipelines, like natual gas pipeline companies manage natural gas pipelines. Each article in the category indicates the company runs oil pipelines, either as its sole business of part of other work. What is so bothersome about this category? It did not exist to cover this function; it now exists. Hmains (talk) 05:09, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not bothersome just looks completely pointless. I question whether this is ever a useful way of looking at the oil business. I think there are (looking at a business activity model) between 300 and a thousand different activities in an oil major all of which are sometimes done by other specialist companies and are at least as relevant as this one. Do we really think adding BP or Exxon to 300 new categories will help anyone using Wikipedia in any way at all? --BozMo talk 09:53, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- I only added one category and do not plan to add more in this area. Your exaggerated fears of a category explosion are just that and not based on any facts. Hmains (talk) 19:41, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- As well you realise I am sure I was merely illustrating how random and incomplete the approach is. At least randomly pointless is better than systematically pointless I agree. --BozMo talk 22:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
