@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: The category was first called Best Sound Recording (example), later was renamed to Best Sound (example). By 1964, the Academy added Best Sound Effects (nowadays Best Sound Editing), but still calling Best Sound (Mixing) "Best Sound". It was until 2004 when they renamed Best Sound to Best Sound Mixing. Great, so it seems like there should be three categories then. One for when all sound (mixing and editing) was considered one category, one for mixing by itself, and one for editing/effects for the years it was its own distinct awards category.
