Circular categories
[edit]I moved Oholah and Oholibah from Category:Hebrew Bible down to its sub-sub-(etc)-category Category:Ancient Israel and Judah, but User:Jon513 reverted that on the grounds that "this is a topic in bible not history".
An article on such a small and specific topic does not belong at the level of Category:Hebrew Bible, but in one or more suitable sub-categories. However, there is a difficulty in that there is a loop in the hierarchy of categories:
- Hebrew Bible
- Hebrew Bible geography
- Hebrew Bible places
- Hebrew Bible nations
- Ancient Israel and Judah
- Hebrew Bible places
- Ancient Israel and Judah
- Hebrew Bible nations
- Hebrew Bible places
- Hebrew Bible geography
Should this loop remain, or be broken?
My proposal would be to take Category:Hebrew Bible places out of Category:Ancient Israel and Judah; it must remain a sub-category of Category:Hebrew Bible nations. I would also treat Category:Ancient Israel and Judah as the proper place to categorise Oholah and Oholibah and other articles on Hebrew Bible descriptions of ancient Israel and Judah. - Fayenatic (talk) 14:08, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
- In regards to the particular of Oholah and Oholibah, the article is about the prophet Ezekiel's rebuke using those terms. I agree with your decision to put in the the category Category:Book of Ezekiel.
- In regards of how to view the category "Hebrew Bible places" it seems to me that the subject is more inclusive than just places in Israel or Judah. There are many place mentioned in the bible that are outside the holy land. Perhaps a new category "Cities of ancient Israel and Judah" is warranted. Jon513 (talk) 18:55, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- The category Category:Book of Ezekiel was only created after I left the comment above. If there were not enough articles to justify creating that category, I don't know where else that article should be categorised.
- I'll consider the new category you suggest. Perhaps the loop of categories is not really a problem. - Fayenatic (talk) 19:28, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
