@Mason, as far as I can tell, territories have seperate categories. There are Roman Catholics in Puerto Rico, for example, as well but the category is not in Category:American Roman Catholics by state.
My reasoning for changing the name was to make it consistant with other categories and to make the name more accurate. BUT if there is a push to combine religious people by states and territories, that would indeed be better for navigating. Omnis Scientia (talk) 21:34, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Some do, and some don't. "There are Roman Catholics in Puerto Rico, for example, as well but the category is not in Category:American Roman Catholics by state." that's correct because the name is "by state". But i think it's important to ask what the defining feature is for the category, rather than just trying to force categories to fit into the current structure. Oppose. The correct format should always be ... by state or territory for all American categories, per the parent Category:Categories by state or territory of the United States. This format was preferred in many community discussions. The logic of category diffusion should be that large categories should be split along geographical lines, and there is no reason to limit this logic to states and exclude Washington D.C., historic and present-day territories etc. Place Clichy (talk) 20:34, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
