Contested deletion
[edit]This page was deleted as part of WP:Categories for discussion/Log/2019 February 18 § Category:Superheroes by continent. It was created again on 7 October 2020 and e.g. immediately placed by its recreator on Category:Egyptian superheroes. It was then nominated for speedy deletion per WP:Criteria for speedy deletion § G4. Recreation of a page that was deleted per a deletion discussion. User:Mackensen removed the speedy deletion notice with edit comment: "not sure that discussion is still good law; it was about continents and not ethnicity".
I believe that the deletion discussion is clear, not so old that it would not be "still good law" and that the word "African" here is undeniably referring to the continent rather than the ethnicity, as shown by the fact that it includes Egyptians. Also, WP conventions on categories such as WP:EGRS, WP:ETHNICRACECAT were most probably considered by the nominator, contributors and closer of the deletion discussion unless suggested otherwise. --Place Clichy (talk) 14:01, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- Place Clichy, to be clear, I declined it in my capacity as an administrator reviewing speedy deletions. In my view, G4 didn't apply because "African" in this case refers to ethnicity, and not the continent, given that it's part of the Category:Superheroes by ethnicity or nationality category tree. - If a speedy deletion is declined, Place Clichy, please don't reapply it. Recreated categories are in any case better dealt with via CfD for technical reasons. Fences&Windows 13:56, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
