A chassidisher Derher (Yiddish: א חסידישע דערהער /a χaˈsidɪʃə dɛrˈhɛr/ lit.'A hassidic perception') Is a nonprofit[1] Subscription based monthly magazine published by Vaad Talmidei Hatmimim Haolami. It features articles, photographs, and interviews related to Chassidic history and the Lubavitcher Rebbe, thought, and the activities of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The magazine is primarily aimed at the English-speaking Chabad community.[2]

History

[edit]

The first issue of Derher was printed in black and white, and distributed in Chabad Yeshivot. The issue, was released beforeShabbat Parshat Mishpatim 2011 (5771), it contained four pages For almost a year, the magazine continued in this format, and it was not until the issue for Shabbat Parshat Vayera in 2011 (5772) that the Vaad Talmidei Hatmimim Ha’olami (World Board of Talmidim) was officially named as the organization behind the publication.[3]

A month later, the first extended edition of the magazine was released, featuring 24 color pages and rare photographs of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The magazine continued as a weekly publication for the next two years, with special extended editions for major Chabad-Lubavitch holidays. In 2013, the magazine transitioned to a monthly publication.[3][4]

By 2022, Chassidisher Derher had significantly expanded its distribution. The magazine reached numerous Yeshivot in the United States, had thousands of private subscribers, and circulated in over 20 Hasidic communities worldwide.[5] In 2021, the complete archive of the magazine's articles was made available online, alongside a detailed index, allowing broader access to its content.[6]

The publication collaborates with Jewish Educational Media [he] (JEM), providing the magazine access to the extensive photo archive of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, which is regularly featured in the magazine.[7][8]
