Iga Świątek is the defending champion.[1][2]
Świątek and Aryna Sabalenka were in contention for the WTA No. 1 ranking. Sabalenka secured the year-end world No. 1 ranking for the first time in her career after winning her first two round-robin matches, while Świątek lost her second match.[3][4]
Jasmine Paolini and Zheng Qinwen made their debuts in the singles competition at the WTA Finals.[5]
Paolini is the only player in this edition to qualify for both the singles and doubles tournaments.
