Zookeeper (Samuel Register) is a character appearing in DC Comics, primarily as an enemy of the Teen Titans.

Publication history

[edit]

Zookeeper first appeared in Teen Titans #13-15 (Sep. - Nov. 2004) and was created by Geoff Johns and Tom Grummett.

Fictional character biography

[edit]

Samuel Register is an assistant of Mark and Marie Logan in Africa. He despises their rambunctious son Garfield, who constantly causes damage in his lab.[1]

After the Logans are killed in a boating accident, Register attempts to continue their work. He conducts inhuman experiments on animals, earning the nickname "Zookeeper".[2]

In the "Beast Boys and Girls" storyline, Register steals a sample of the Sakutia virus, infecting himself and thousands of children and gaining shapeshifting abilities. However, Beast Boy subdues Register by transforming into a Sydney funnel-web spider, after which he is imprisoned in Alcatraz and his blood is used to cure the children.[2][3]

Zookeeper later joins Alexander Luthor Jr.'s Secret Society of Super Villains and Superboy-Prime's Legion of Doom.[4][5]

Powers and abilities

[edit]

Zookeeper can turn into any animal at will, similar to Beast Boy.
