Pantha (Rosabelle Mendez) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics.

Publication history

[edit]

Pantha first appeared in New Titans #73 (February 1991) and was created by Marv Wolfman and Tom Grummett.[1]

Fictional character biography

[edit]

Pantha is a cat-like member of the Teen Titans who was created by the Wildebeest Society.[2] During her time with the Titans, she has no knowledge of her origins, whether she was a human or panther before the Society mutated her. Pantha later adopts Baby Wildebeest and moves to Russia with Red Star to care for him.[3][4][5][6]

In Infinite Crisis, Pantha is killed by Superboy-Prime.[7][8][9] In Blackest Night, she is revived as a Black Lantern before being killed again by Dawn Granger.[10]

Powers and abilities

[edit]

Pantha's human/panther physiology gave her superhuman strength, speed, and agility, as well as heightened senses (such as hearing, smelling, and night-vision), enhanced reflexes, and retractable claws on her hands and feet.

Other versions

[edit]

An alternate timeline variant of Pantha appears in Booster Gold (vol. 2). This version is a member of the Freedom Fighters and a student at New York University.[11]
