Narrowing down the possibilities
[edit]Sometimes there are several issues to solve, and one RfC can't solve all of them, but it can move towards a solution by narrowing the remaining options. Each successive RfC should then narrow it further, and no new options should be introduced which complicate the matter, unless there is wide agreement that a totally different option is the real solution. At each stage, previously rejected options should not be reintroduced. This can happen when previously uninvolved editors don't know the history of previous RfCs. -- BullRangifer (talk) 00:57, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
Require discussion before starting an RfC
[edit]RfCs and other forms of DR should not be used without first using local discussion, collaboration, and attempts to create a local consensus. If these fail, then an RfC can be tried. Premature RfCs short circuit and sabotage the local processes. -- BullRangifer (talk) 01:01, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
