More background on the founding of Art+Feminist at [1].--Ipigott (talk) 10:34, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Phenomenal what you are doing, Ian. It's been a rough weekend with my latest round but I'll be back at it helping you later today I think. It's really looking good though. --ARoseWolf 18:25, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ARoseWolf: With my latest edits, I think the article is more or less ready to be moved to Women in Red, possibly as Wikipedia:Women in Red/Historical overview of projects supporting women. Let me know what you think. Maybe you have further items you would like to add.--Ipigott (talk) 12:43, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, we can edit it after moving still so I agree. --ARoseWolf 12:48, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should wait until tomorrow. There are still a few things I would like to check out.--Ipigott (talk) 12:52, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to dig some today too. I have responses by several people about their respective projects/initiatives so I will check those too. Its been a rough week so far but you can't keep me down. ;) --ARoseWolf 12:54, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You've done really great with the list. It's very informative and with links to each project I think it will help us coordinate better to hopefully improve the effectiveness of our efforts and allow us to speak with a united voice. --ARoseWolf 12:59, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Russian Wiki

[edit]

I found this project on the Russian Wiki Project :Feminism. It was started in 2011. --ARoseWolf 13:12, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. By all means include Russian which is an important source of information about all the SU countries. I was thinking of adding a section on major non-Latin languages where there was early interest in women. I believe there were also significant initiatives in Hebrew (which you might be able to read).--Ipigott (talk) 14:53, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Added two for Hebrew. I'm still searching that Wikipedia for more. I'll add the Russian one too. As far as I can tell there is not a WiR equivalent on the Russian Wikipedia. --ARoseWolf 15:11, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
From here it looks as if the Israelis started on 11 July 2016.--Ipigott (talk) 15:13, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I see you already found it.--Ipigott (talk) 15:14, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, I found this on the Ukrainian Wikipedia. It seems to be something of a women in red month project but, as far as I can tell it was only done from Nov 15 to December 15, 2017 and hasn't been repeated. --ARoseWolf 17:27, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is a Project:Feminism on the Ukrainian Wikipedia but it is sadly showing not active. Though, upon looking at participants there are two that joined this year. I may just leave them a little note seeing if they would like to collaborate with us and restart the project there, if its something they are interested in. Can't hurt. --ARoseWolf 17:31, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should only include sites which are likely to be of general interest.--Ipigott (talk) 18:08, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looks pretty good how it is now. --ARoseWolf 18:46, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EN Wikipedia or Meta

[edit]

There have been suggestions we should include a page along these lines on Meta. I suggest we first include this article under Women in Red on the EN Wikipedia where I think it will initially enjoy greater visibility. Over the next few weeks, we could include appropriate links on some of the existing Meta pages about women and specifically inform many of the more active women projects in other language versions of its existence. This could lead to further enhancements.

In this connection, I think it might be useful to convert the MDY dates into the more widely accepted DMY as this will allow for easier copying, etc. I'll thy to complete this today.--Ipigott (talk) 09:28, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just woke up and will start combing through Meta to find any pages that exist. Everything looks great. I am so glad to just be a pat of it. You are phenomenal, Ian. --ARoseWolf 14:24, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, should we add a link to the Wikimedia Gender Gap Observatory to this page? --ARoseWolf 18:30, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ARoseWolf: Yes, the observatory should be included on our page even though much of the info needs to be updated. I also think a link to our page should be included somewhere on Gender gap. Perhaps the best place would be under Categories, lists and other similar pages. Unfortunately these pages are seldom visited. Maybe the best option would simply be to include a message on the main Gender gap talk page. I think we also need to look carefully through all the Gender gap pages, especially Resources, Groups and Initiatives to see if there's anything else important to be added to our lists.--Ipigott (talk) 08:28, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott: I've noticed a lot of these projects need to be updated. Most of the Women in Red projects are somewhat mirrored so that's a positive but some of them haven't been updated in months or even years. I'm going to continue filling in the blanks and I was responded to by one member of a project with enough additional information to add it to the list. I honestly believe doing everything you mentioned above gives it the most exposure. The pages may be seldom visited but that doesn't mean they aren't visited. I'll begin looking through all of the pages and see if we can expand the list with additional information as well. --ARoseWolf 12:31, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ARoseWolf: Thanks for filling in all the missing details, especially the dates. Let me know when you're happy with the revisions and I can start including links from other projects, etc. If it's going to take a few more days, that's fine. There's no mad rush. Do you happen to know what is meant by "Recognition date"? Maybe it should be defined.--Ipigott (talk) 15:29, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ipigott, I believed "Recognition Date" to mean the affiliation (funding) approval date from the WMF given to these projects. That's the date I went with. Rosiestep would have to confirm if my thinking was correct or not. If it was meant to be something different then we can definitely find and make those changes. I think I've added about as much general information as I can to the list so you can begin linking as you see fit. I'm still waiting on contact from a few groups/projects/affiliates to fill in their information. It's a pretty exhaustive list as it is. I am going through the Gender Gap links now to see if there is anything we may have missed or additional information that may be useful to add to the list. --ARoseWolf 15:54, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ARoseWolf Yes, "Recognition Date" refers to the date that the User Group's application was "approved" (creating a page on Meta is just one step in the process) and the entity became an officially-recognized Affiliate. In this case, the date that the page was created on Meta is less relevant than the date that the User Group was "recognized". --Rosiestep (talk) 18:03, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
