Event rule 5
[edit]Can you please clarify the following? Does that mean if I submit an article for 20-minute review and it fails then I cannot submit it during editathon even if I intend to improve it during editathon period acting upon the suggestions? GA nominations that are quick-failed will not be counted as a qualifying editathon submission for either a nominator or a reviewer, but articles nominated in good faith that are fully reviewed and failed may stay.

- "Quick-failed" here refers to the GA quickfail. It's completely separate from the 20-minute review here, which is just a way to get feedback from editors on whether your article is ready to formally nominate for GA.
- I would assume that even if you submit an article for GA and it is quick-failed (which is very rare, in my experience, and is generally only for very obviously inadequate articles), you could resubmit it and have the second review (assuming it wasn't quick-failed again) count in the editathon. But if you submit a GA to the 20-minute review process here there's no such thing as a quickfail: you might be advised that there are issues you really need to fix before the GA nomination, but the point of that is to make sure you don't then have the submission quick-failed, which isn't fun either for the nominator or for the reviewer. Welcome all!
[edit]Hi everyone! Welcome to Women in Green's sixth edit-a-thon! I hope you enjoy this event and that our collective understanding of historical women will be enriched by your contributions. If you have any issues or questions, feel free to post them here and we'll try to address them. If you're looking for articles to review during this month, check the Women in Green talk page for our lists of backlogs. I look forward to reading all the articles that we're going to be writing over the next month. Good luck and have fun! --Grnrchst (talk) 08:16, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
First week down
[edit]Hey all, hope you're all doing well. We are now a week into the edit-a-thon and I'm very pleased to see we're making progress on our goals! So far, we have nominated women and women's works from 6 different centuries and have gotten entries in our timelines for ancient history, the middle ages and modern history. Excellent work to all involved! Keep up the good work! --Grnrchst (talk) 15:07, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Lots of interesting articles being nominated! I'm going to see if I can add another one from ancient history later this month – in past, the oldest biography I've worked on was from 1654 (AD), so it's a neat challenge diving much deeper into history. Alanna the Brave (talk) 19:42, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Looking forward to reading that Alanna! --Grnrchst (talk) 10:06, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
Half way through
[edit]As the second week comes to a close, it's good to see we're still making progress. So far, we have nominated 12 articles about women from 7 different centuries, and many of those already have reviews open. That's fantastic! We have the late modern period thoroughly covered at this point, so it would be good to see if we could get more representation for earlier periods of history going forward. All the best to everyone involved. :) --Grnrchst (talk) 13:46, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
Medieval biography in need of review
[edit]If anyone's looking for a medieval-era biography to review for this event, Eleanor of Castile (1241–1290) has just been nominated for GA! Alanna the Brave (talk) 14:23, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Just noticed the nomination for Hurra-yi Khuttali, another medieval biography that might be worth reviewing! --Grnrchst (talk) 13:25, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
One week left!
[edit]Hey all! We're now through our third week of the edit-a-thon and we now have 20 articles nominated from 8 different centuries. We're averaging almost one nomination every day, which is amazing to see. It unfortunately seems like we may not be meeting our main goal of 20 centuries' representation, but so long as we're getting more articles about women and women's works to GA, that's what matters. Let's see if we can get some more stuff reviewed in the last week, as about half of our nominations are unreviewed and there's still quite a thick backlog that needs reviewing too. Best of luck to everyone in the final week of June! --Grnrchst (talk) 13:46, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- I was looking for articles that I might be able to improve in periods without nominations, but I found it too hard so I gave that up and improved and nominated an article about a past event, going back in time several days... :-) – Editør (talk) 14:44, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for working on that! So long as something is in the past, it counts as history. By next month, this very event will count as women's history! :P --Grnrchst (talk) 15:12, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! I joined this project because I wanted to work towards making a good article. I chose an article that I thought might be too big a project to finish in the month of June. And it was! But I am going to keep going, I just wont be able to submit it to be included in this edit-a-thon. But I wanted to let you all know, so you are aware, that this edit-a-thon inspired me to do a bunch of work on it.
- Australian women in World War I
- I need to expand the sections a little more, and I have a few more sections to add, and then I am going to fix up the lead paragraph to reflect the full article. Once I get to that point I will ask for some advice about what other changes are needed. If anyone has any pointers in the meantime they will of course be welcome!

- This seems like a lot of work! A minor thing, you may want to add image alt texts per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility/Alternative text for images. – Editør (talk) 18:18, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, I will add this to the to-do list. I am going to amend the images when I am finished adding sections. I read that the USA public domain details will need to be updated, So when I look into how to do that, I will look into these alternative text instructions too. :)
- AdaWoolf (talk) 11:58, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- Wow -- best of luck AdaWoolf! An impressive project. Definitely feel free to reach out to Women in Green again when you're ready for more advice. Alanna the Brave (talk) 22:07, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, I definitely will :)

Aaaand we're done!
[edit]Nominations for the edit-a-thon have now closed, although if you have any reviews open, you still have another month to complete those. Over the past month, we nominated 24 articles for GAN, covering 10 different centuries. Thanks so much to everyone who participated for helping improve our collective knowledge of women's history! I'll get around to sending out barnstars soon. If you're looking for more to do, feel free to participate in the July GAN Backlog Drive; we have our own backlog listed on the Women in Green talk page. Thanks again everyone, take care! --Grnrchst (talk) 09:22, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- There is also the Wikipedia:2024 Developing Countries WikiContest, which is now up and running—signups will remain open for the next two weeks. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 12:37, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Great job everyone! Thanks for all your work as coordinator, Grnrchst. Sounds like there are lots of other great events to keep us busy this summer (I notice that the Developing Countries WikiContest is offering a barnstar prize for most articles about women). Best, Alanna the Brave (talk) 18:37, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
