Brittany Howard (hockey)
The Brittany Howard (hockey) article has been nominated for deletion. It looks like it could use some updating to content and additional references integrated like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 6to reinforce WP:GNG and update the article. Anyone available to help update the article a bit? @Bill McKenna: @Hydra88:? Hmlarson (talk) 02:22, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- Same for Carly Hill. Hmlarson (talk) 02:42, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- It looks like there has been an enormous (and often angry) back-and-forth around WP:NHOCKEY over the past two weeks. This creates a serious issue for this task force, as the notability guidelines have completely disregarded Women's Ice Hockey. To wit, the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL) and the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) are top level leagues in Canada and the US but don't appear in the notability criteria. Also, because the College Hockey America (CHA) is a women's only NCAA Division I conference, it does not appear in the notability criteria. I had not been aware of the controversy until I was pinged this evening re: Brittany Howard. I'll be glad to incorporate the above-listed references as they will greatly improve the article. Nonetheless, She should easily pass the notability guidelines as the CHA Player of the Year. Many thanks for the ping,@Hmlarson:@Hydra88:@Mark Staffieri:, Bill McKenna (talk) 03:23, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- Sounds good! As you're probably aware, WP:GNG takes precedence over any sports guidelines/essay. If articles are referenced well enough to meet that criteria, there should be no problem other than having enough voices of support in any AfDs, if necessary. Please be sure to tag article talk pages with the {{WikiProject Women}} tag as well. Hmlarson (talk) 03:43, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
- Something to be aware of, because I have noticed a few in this project seem to have a misunderstanding of what WP:NHOCKEY does. It is not about top levels of hockey. Just being good at a sport doesn't mean you are notable. This goes for any sport and any gender. NHOCKEY is built around the idea that people who have met the levels set out in it are likely to have been written about to the extent of meeting the WP:GNG. The reason that the CWHL and NWHL don't appear in NHOCKEY is that their players generally don't meet WP:GNG except those that have played in the Olympics. CHA likewise doesn't appear in the notability criteria as players in women's college hockey don't generally receive the coverage necessary to meet the GNG, which also applies to almost all the men's NCAA players as well. But Hmlarson is correct, if they meet GNG they will be kept regardless of what NHOCKEY says. Unfortunately none of the sources on Brittnay are the kind that prove notability as they are either not independent (a couple are from the NCAA and NWHL), are passing mentions where they only mention a name in a story about something else or they are a blog. If you can find multiple sources from reliable sources that are independent of the subject and go into depth about the player then yes they will be an easy keep. I could not find any. -DJSasso (talk) 00:14, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
- The documentation has been upgraded, and there is now some additional content. I took the proposed deletion tag off, and would appreciate a third party to give it a review and improved classification if merited. Regards, Bill McKenna (talk) 15:33, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
