Archiving
I decided to archive the talk page, as it was well above the recommended size is 32K or smaller. That, and it was a touch too long to be useful. It is still available here, and as its template states, feel free to "revitalize" any topic, by copy/pasting here. Tomertalk 08:52, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:26, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
DYK articles?
I notice that there is a section on the WikiProject's pages for Featured Articles. Should we create a section for Wisconsin articles featured on Did You Know (DYK) to encourage growth of new articles? Last week I had my second: Hearthstone Historic House Museum. I had Brothertown Indians in Feb. 2006. Royalbroil T : C 01:33, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- I would certainly think so. Such articles are good work in and of themselves (being at least a Start within five days of creation is no small thing), and they make it a lot easier for portal operators to choose statements for their DYK section. Badbilltucker 01:55, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Another fun map
Here, for your appreciation and enjoyment. :-) Tomertalk 00:43, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
The Big Ten Wikiproject is currently cleaning and fixing the UW-Madison article in an attempt to make it a Featured Article. There are many suggestions on the UW-Madison Talk page. Please contribute what you can. Thanks! – Lordmontu (talk) • (contribs) 03:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have been doing some work to improve the classification status of the article on the only Congressman to die in the line of duty, Congressman Leo J. Ryan. Leo J. Ryan graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in 1943. He posthumously received the Congressional Gold Medal. He represented California's 11th congressional district. Please let me know what you think, at Talk:Leo Ryan/Comments. Thank you for your time. Smee 19:46, 28 January 2007 (UTC).
Exit problem with Interstate 90 in Wisconsin article
In response to Royalbroil's recommendation, I'm reposting this here... The listing of exits in Interstate 90 in Wisconsin seems to have contradictory information for Exit 3, and the distinction between Exit 3 and Exits 3A and 3B is unclear. Anyone in, or sufficiently familiar with, the La Crosse area can check this out and fix it? Cheers, Tomertalk 00:49, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- That was an extra line (the one with River Falls - errant) I removed it. • master_sonLets talk 01:47, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

NRHP Frank Lloyd Wright collaboration
Definitely encouraging cross project participation here, as a number of prominent Wright designed buildings are located in Wisconsin, and he's from there : ) IvoShandor 12:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

New articles
Dear Wikipedians, a list of possible Wisconsin-related articles found by bot is available at User:AlexNewArtBot/WisconsinSearchResult. Colchicum 15:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- I add most of them to WikiProject Wisconsin. Thanks for the tip! Royalbroil T : C 18:37, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Brittingham Viking Organization proposed deletion
Someone has applied the "prod" tag (proposed deletion) for this article. You can remove the tag if you think the article is notable. I have no opinion. I'm listing it here because I think some UW (Madison) alumns better understand its notability to decide if it should be deleted or kept. The article is one of the articles that the bot found in the last post. Royalbroil 15:24, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Assessments
I was thinking of trying to set up an assessment system for this project, like many others have done. Any thoughts/comments? —Mira 21:46, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, I just went ahead and did it. The new assessment department is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Wisconsin/Assessment. Please help out with assessing articles. Hopefully the instructions on that page are clear enough, if they aren't, let me know and I'll try to fix them. —Mira 06:40, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
I've started assessing articles in earnest. Please feel free to comment if you disagree with any assessment, I'm doing this rather quickly. Gimme danger 18:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hodag article in Signpost
The Hodag article is featured as the WikiWorld cartoon of this week (Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2007-04-16/WikiWorld). Please join me by watching the article for vandalism due to the increased visibility. The article is about a fictional creature and high school mascot in Rhinelander. Cleanup
I've cleaned up the baseball section in Lake Hallie, Wisconsin and created a new article which needs expansion Chippewa River Baseball League. I'm going to update the project page to reflect this; I'm new here, so please inform me if this isn't allowed. Gimme danger 08:11, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know if there are precedents for baseball leagues, but I have serious doubts that it is notable. I thing that the bar for notability might be asserted if it was a high school conference. It looks like a youth baseball league. I personally don't see much salvagable information anyhow. I consider myself to be more inclusionistic than deletionistic. Royalbroil 11:58, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, I don't think it's notable either. I didn't want to delete the information entirely without consulting with the project though. Gimme danger 16:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- Next time Be bold. You should delete the article. You as the creator and only contributor can speedy delete the article by adding the text {{db-author}} to the top including the }} and {{ symbols. An admin will delete it shortly. Cheers! Royalbroil 19:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Possibly useful map
I made a locator map for Wisconsin. Similar ones are in use in infoboxes in state park articles (for example Van Buren State Park) or city articles (for example Elmwood, Louisiana). I hope this is useful, Ruhrfisch 15:42, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Note that this old image is being used for all of the cities and townships in the state. I would prefer to use the old image style for all city and township articles for consistency sake. This new image would be quite useful for any new types of maps, like the state parks articles that you talked about. I like the new image a lot. Royalbroil 22:07, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that consistency is important, but it might be nice to replace the old maps with the new maps at some point. For me at least, the colored version is a lot easier to read. I'd certainly be willing to do so when I have a large block of free time available. Gimme danger 00:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- As long as consistency is achieved, it sounds good to me! The color version would be more in line with the county maps. Maybe you could use a more obvious marker than a red dot, like a red star or whatever. Would you make up a sample for everyone to comment on if you decide to spend the time? Royalbroil 01:15, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Question about a Wisconsin location article
[redacted per ticket:2009121310024385]
Infobox U.S. County
The Infobox U.S. County template is on 95% of all counties in the U.S. For Wisconsin, however, only a few counties are using this template. Wisconsin counties need alot of work!
Timneu22 15:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have added Infobox U.S. County to the 32 Wisconsin counties that were not using it. --Andy Marek 18:27, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
I moved an article called Eagles Club to The Rave. I know it is a famous music venue, but I've never been there. I wrote some basic information abou the major venue, and its place on the National Register of Historic Places. I hope someone who's more familiar with The Rave will edit the article. Please make sure that everything in the article is accurate. Royalbroil 04:12, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
undeleted content
I have undeleted the former List of ZIP Codes in Wisconsin and projectified it here. Please read the very !subtle cautionary word on top...otherwise, have fun editing. Tomertalk 01:07, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- The list is an excellent resource for the WikiProject to use. I have used it several times to determine if a small town has an article under a different name. We can also see which small towns could use articles. Thanks! Royalbroil 13:42, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Articles for Deletion on Teresa Halbach
The article is listed on Articles for Deletion. You can comment on the merits of the article here if you wish. I do not plan to comment as I have a Conflict of Interest, as she was a distant relative of mine. Royalbroil 06:01, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
I expanded the article from 4 sentences to a non-stub article, and I have nominated the article for the Did You Know (DYK) section on the main page. I invite anyone who is familiar with the site to collaborate with me and use your sources to expand the article. I have used inline citations, so I would appreciate if you would cite anything that could be contested too. I would appreciate your help. Royalbroil 16:29, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
Black Hawk War
Hello, I know this is a pretty active project so I thought I would drop this message here in case anyone was interested. User:Kranar drogin and I have been embarking on a pretty serious collaboration involving northern Illinois related content. The collaboration has already netted about 10 GAs and we are soon aiming for an FA. This aside part of the next phase of our collaboration concerns the Black Hawk War, fought in Illinois and Wisconsin in the United States in 1832. I have already done some work on Battle of Kellogg's Grove and created a companion article about the grove as well. I have also done some work on St. Vrain massacre and created an article about Mr. St. Vrain. IvoShandor 11:43, 28 July 2007 (UTC)I have a collaboration page in my user space, User:IvoShandor/Black Hawk War where I am collecting sources and making other notes. Anyone interested should stop by there. Discussion can occur on that talk page as well. Thanks for your time.IvoShandor 11:43, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, awesome job of acquiring 10 GAs! Royalbroil 13:38, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, it can be hard work but I find it quite rewarding. Please feel free to visit the collaboration page if you are interested. IvoShandor 21:32, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I usually only work on that I understand very well, and I never even heard of the war before this. I guess my history classes in high school failed me, because I was a good student. I have plenty of other things that I would rather work on. I am working on improving the article for NASCAR champion and Wisconsinite Alan Kulwicki toward GA status for this WikiProject and WikiProject NASCAR. I have several other ideas for GA articles in mind after that is done. Let me know if you want me to look over the Black Hawk War article for POV or whatever. I'll warn you that I'm an easy grader. - Just a little note here on the progress of this. After the last two GA noms pass we will have raised 8 of 12 battle/massacre/skirmish articles to GA. Only 4 to go! And the Black Hawk War to FA, I have slowly been working on that article as well. Several of the good articles from the work are within this project (actually they probably all should be tagged by both WI and IL projects. IvoShandor 21:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Great! Please add the WikiProject tag to the talk page as you see appropriate. Please also add the GA and FA articles to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Wisconsin#Notable_articles. My progress on Kulwicki's is slower than yours. Royalbroil 22:05, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I've been working on the Wisconsin Portal lately. Royalbroil has asked me to drop a note here to talk about what plans I have.
My aim is to improve the portal to featured status. To do this, it's best to use the random portal elements templates and have a roster of content that will change each time someone visits the portal. These need to have about 10 items in each section (article, image, biography) - a little less for the DYK section if we put 3 per entry. There's more suggestions at Featured portal criteria.
Before I change anything further, I'll work up a to-do list and post it to the Portal talk page. All suggestions are welcome. — Zaui (talk) 21:28, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Leave of absence: some health issues plus busy with some other matters
I am taking a leave of absence from WikiPedia due to health reasons. I had had some minor surgery and will be undergoing some medical tests. My apologies for not responding to the messeges on my talk page. Also I am busy with the Aquinas High School archives in La Crosse. I did have an article in the La Crosse Tribune about that one. I will in and out checking on things. Thank you and my apologies-RFD 18:24, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Great Wisconsin Fire
I keep coming across references to the Great Wisconsin Fire of 1871 which killed over 600 people and left 1.25 million acres burned. Apparently it started near Green Bay, does anyone know anything about this. I cannot seem to find anything on wiki about it. IvoShandor 08:23, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Peshtigo Fire, nevermind. Sorry. IvoShandor 08:25, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Correct. I just started an article for the Peshtigo Fire Museum that was featured in the DYK section. The fire hopped dozens of miles over the Bay of Green Bay. I setup a redirect from the name you have encountered. Royalbroil 15:28, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Edit war
Seems like kind of a minor thing, but... So far, there are only three of us involved, but if anyone has an opinion, feel free to drop by Grafton, Wisconsin, and weigh in. Or I'd appreciate it if you'd put the article on your watchlist. Maybe the editor doesn't believe that the two of us are a strong enough consensus. To sum up, one editor feels that negative things should not be included in an article. Thanks. -Freekee 16:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Help watch Wisconsin articles
As a fellow Minnesota WikiProject member, we actively watch all related articles for erroneous edits when current events occur that hit nationally. Currently I am correcting information regarding the incident surrounding Crandon, Wisconsin. As such I've also boosted that article's content to outweigh the incident and paint Crandon in perspective. This was helpful especially when during the I-35W chaos in which almost all Minnesota-related articles were vandalized with I-35W information. Good luck! .:DavuMaya:. 21:49, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
