Nutshells. More nutshells.

I think there should be a page which collects the "in a nutshell" summaries of all policy/guideline/essays. How could we do it for essays? Ocaasi (talk) 03:20, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Content policy in a nutshell and Wikipedia:Nutshell. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:35, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Essays banner

I added a "template" importance to the WikiProject banner Template:WikiProject Essays and created a category Category:Template-impact Wikipedia essays. I plan to tag the talk pages of the templates listed at Wikipedia:Wikipedia essays with {{tl:essaysort|importance=template}}. Since template normally is a -class (not -importance), but Template:WikiProject Essays does not use -class, it would be helpful to get feed back on whether to keep the Category:Template-impact Wikipedia essays system or open up WikiProject banner Template:WikiProject Essays to a -class system. Also, I'm not sure whether changing the WikiProject banner Template:WikiProject Essays will impact the bot. I also been busy on other essay related stuff, so please go through my posting history to ensure I didn't screw up. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 08:43, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

As I understand it this project uses "impact" instead of "importance" and they have already evaluated the "impact" of most of the essays that were tagged. — Carl (CBM · talk) 13:26, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Add Cat, Dab, Image, Portal, Project, Redirect, Template WikiProject Essays banner: I'm going to use the WikiProject Essays banner to tag the talk page of essay related templates and place those template talk pages into Category:Template-impact Wikipedia essays. e.g. {{tl:essaysort|importance=template}}. Any objections? Also, the WikiProject Essays banner now uses Top, High, Mid, Low, NA impact to place essay talk pages in categories of the same name. I plan to expand the WikiProject Essays banner to additionally include Cat/Category, Template, Image, Project, and Redirect impact so that such essay talk pages be placed in catetories of the same name so that we don't have to use Wikipedia:WikiProject Essays/Templates, Wikipedia:WikiProject_Essays/Categories, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Essays/Resources as the primary way of keeping track of Category, Template, Image, Project, and Redirect talk pages that are part of WikiProject Essays. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:09, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

It would make more sense to use the class parameter for that, not the impact parameter. — Carl (CBM · talk) 17:03, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree. The template now uses the impact parameter (importance scale), but not the quality classification, probably to not get into the issue of determining whether an essay is FA, FL, A, GA, B, C, Start, Stub, etc. It would be easy enough to modify the WikiProject Essays banner to allow for only Cat/Category, Template, Image, Project, and Redirect etc class parameters and not include options for FA, FL, A, GA, B, C, Start, Stub, etc. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 17:18, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Further, perhaps we could just tag the Cat/Category, Template, Image, Project, and Redirect etc pages using impact=NA (e.g., {{tl:essaysort|importance=NA}} )and sort the Category:NA-impact Wikipedia essays page by the first name of the page so that all the categories appear together, all the templates appear together, etc. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 17:25, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
I think using the NA importance, along with a specific class parameter, makes sense. User:MSGJ may be able to help you configure the template to do that; I'm not very familiar with the template. — Carl (CBM · talk) 21:21, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
