Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation
Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Science WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:54, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 00:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

please help - high priority articles missing
Amongst the list of missing articles shown at Wikipedia:Most wanted articles are a couple of obviously very high priority ones, namely Climate of Africa and Climate of Asia. Scil100 (talk) 21:24, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Greenhouse and icehouse Earth in need of some attention
The article Greenhouse and icehouse Earth needs some attention from an expert in the subject. When I came across the article it was full of bad grammar and unencyclopaedic language, I've tried to eliminate that and generally make it better, but I'd pretty much done all I can do, since I don't know that much about the subject of Paleoclimatology to know what to add or subtract from the article. So can someone who knows this stuff take a look at it. Thanks. --Hibernian (talk) 06:43, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured portal review/Weather
This portal could use some improvement, see above discussion for some suggestions on things to work on, any help you could give in contributing to the efforts to maintain its quality rating would be most appreciated. Cheers, — Cirt (talk) 01:50, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

First day
Well, I'm all very excited about this project. Hitherto I have had very little experience in programming and writing Templates and the like. Today I have been analysing the syntax of various infoboxes in order to create my own.
Cheers all. TydeNet 06:00, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, I notice this hasn't gotten much in the way of activity. But I figure, hey, better late than never right? So, I think adding climate tables to all of the cities is a great idea, but can we use a table that allows celsius and fahrenheit to be put on without a problem? Us crazy Americans over here don't know the metric system. Same with rainfall amounts. Also, I propose adding snowfall amounts too, because snowfall is a significant part of climate. What do you think? bob rulz 08:23, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
You may want to take a look at what I have created and started adding to some pages (eg. Wichita, Kansas #Climate). This is based on climate data produced by the US government. Although the basic data table provides °F and inches because thats how the measurements are done in the US, the text includes the metric equivalents. —Mike 20:24, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
Climate box background colours
I've noticed that many climate boxes have background colours to correspond to the extremity of the given listing (be it av. high temperature in May, or rainfall in June). Is there anything available which I could use as a guide as to which background colours should be used for any given temperature/rainfall. Thanks--Benhealy 04:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Since there is no "standard" infobox, I think the answer would be no. You can just looks around and see what others have done. —Mike 17:49, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Charts 'n diagrams
Hi! Does somebody know if there's a standard on the en:wiki for climate diagrams? Couldn't find any information. We just started (over) 8) on the de:wiki to set a standard, how a diagram has to look like. I mean a chart for a city. Where you have precipitation, max-min&average temperature and maybe hours of sunshine. Something like this:
Would be nice to get an answer asap. Thank you so much! --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 00:09, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- I haven't seen a "standard" anywhere around the English version. Just looking at the image here, I'm not a big fan. I have seen other charts on articles that were easier to read. And I prefer charts that present the range of normals (between high and low) rather than just the one average temperature for the month which isn't very representative. —Mike 01:34, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- The German Wikipedia now uses diagrams by the Walther/Lieth Standard. That's not a beautyful diagram, but it's scientific at least. And that's most important, IMHO. Take care! --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 18:56, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- Except this isn't a scientific publication, so it doesn't really matter if we use scientific charts or charts that are better suited to our purposes. —Mike 00:34, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Climate pages progressing nicely
There have been some significant strides over the last several months in regards to creating monthly climate pages for various states, with two achieving GA status: Climate of Florida and Climate of North Carolina. Also, the climate article itself is undergoing another upgrade. I find it satisfying that this all seems to be happenning, though it would be nice if the efforts were more coordinated through a project such as this one. Climatography of the United States No. 20 1971-2000
This set of data is such a common citation - this search shows 110 hits - that it seems desirable to have a template for the citation, so that it's always presented in exactly the same way. Such a template would take as input the state, station ID, and station name and would produce something like
"Climatography of the United States No. 20 (1971–2000) - Los Angeles Intl AP, CA" (PDF). National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 2004.
(I don't think access date is necessary, as this is a stable, archived source.)
Thoughts?
Jordan Brown (talk) 17:41, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- a bit late, Jordan. much of the major cities in the US already use such NOAA data (some of it being my work) in their pages already, but not at all a bad idea nevertheless. ---华钢琴49 (TALK) 02:43, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sure. It is the fact that so many do use it that prompted the suggestion, to simplify the pages and make and keep them consistent. I don't know when I'll have the time, but I'll see if I can do something about it. My tentative thought is to include the <ref> and </ref> in the template so that all you need to do is write something like "Los Angeles is really hot.{{clim20-ref|ca|045114|Los Angeles Intl AP, CA}}". Jordan Brown (talk) 16:07, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. Over in Template:Infobox weather I've suggested changing the sourcing display to explicitly use references. That would conflict with my thought above to include <ref> in this proposed template. Need to reconcile the two. Jordan Brown (talk) 18:01, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Translation of weather boxes from other languages - macros
Hi, I have an idea. There are few weather boxes in articles about cities located in some parts of the world, particularly Russia and Latin America. So I thought that someone could create a Word Macro which would enable the mass translation of these weather boxes from the original languages (Russian and Spanish). (examples: Russian, Spanish weatherboxes)
The weather boxes would then need almost no additional editing, ready to place them in the article. I would create the macros myself, but I'm bad at it, I can't create it properly. So, can anyone make the macros and upload them somewhere for others to use them? --85.70.56.231 (talk) 04:07, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
sub-arid
About 50 articles contain "sub-arid" or "sub-desert". "Sub" means less, "arid" dry and "desert" dry area. So do these terms stand for areas that are almost too dry to support any vegetation? I think this should be put more clearly, but want to be sure first. --Ettrig (talk) 08:30, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Map question/request
Hi, I would like to either make two maps myself or let someone else make the maps: I am looking for county-scale (or finer, if county borders are shown) maps showing summer temperature norms and precipitation amounts for eastern wisconsin and northern Illinois. These would go on the Door_County,_Wisconsin page, which had 5,883 hits in June. The purpose of the maps would be to explain part of why it is a tourist attraction. People drive from the Chicago area which is warmer and wetter to Door County, which is cooler and drier (also sunnier) for camping and beaches. I am having trouble finding a non-copyrighted source to make the images from.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 22:44, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
