List of Proposed Ideas

  1. Alternating Weekly/Fornightly/Month Article Drive for the Entire Project
    1. One for Mario
    2. One for Zelda
    3. One for Pokémon/Animal Crossing/Metroid/Final Fantasy
    4. One for Hardware
  2. A portal (I could do this easy enough since I already manage a Portal)
  3. Set up a plan stating when we plan to have our first GA/FA etc
  4. Comprise a list of Vital Topics for Nintendo
  5. Assign users to represent series (Pokémon, Animal Crossing, Mario)

Any other ideas? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 00:45, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't think we really need an article approvement drive for every single Nintendo owned series, though I do like the idea of making a portal and assigning users series. Overall, good ideas, keep up the good work.--TBC??? ??? ??? 00:56, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
I've suggested making them alternating, which will probably be better as long as we keep it going. I can't do the portal right now because I'm wrapped up in portal copyright rules, and if I sneeze I'm going to end up in trouble for doing nothing. I should be able to do it soon though, and I'll do the rest of the stuff tomorrow because it's 2am :P Highway Rainbow Sneakers 01:02, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Understood, but I'm not sure if alternating articles can work, as it can be a bit tedious at some points. Also, the article improvement drive should focus on articles that need improvement the most, no matter what series it may be. --TBC??? ??? ??? 13:50, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Could we have a seperate article drive? One for more developed but still poor articles? It's very ambitious to get a stub to featured in 2 weeks and most of the remaining stubs are tedious.. could we maybe a smaller article drive, like for Luigi? Good article, needs cleanup, but we could get it up to GA within a week easily. Thoughts? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 14:30, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Alright, perhaps a seperate article drive (maybe weekly?) for minor articles. --TBC??? ??? ??? 14:41, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Good plan. I've got the other box done below. I left the original because I still like it :P Could you add the second one to the main page? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 14:53, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
A Portal would be a good idea. Lcarsdata Talk | E-mail | My Contribs 15:46, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. But I have to ask - do we really need to include Final Fantasy? It is not a Nintendo franchise, and about half of the games have never appeared on Nintendo's systems. NP Chilla 20:38, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes we do, FF started on Nintendo systems and only just moved to Sony, and now it's moved back. So yes, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 20:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
No, we don't. FF is not owned by nintendo, and has been on multiple platforms. It is, Therefor, not a nintendo franchise.--Ac1983fan (talkcontribs) 22:14, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Please remember that WikiProject Nintendo only concentrates on Nintendo owned characters, games, and systems (though this does exclude Super Mario RPG related articles which, though owned by Square Enix, features Nintendo related characters). --TBC 01:05, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

"Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Nintendo." Hmm. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:15, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

It depends on how you define "related". For example, we could say that both the Xbox and the PlayStation are technically related to Nintendo, as they are Nintendo's competitors. --TBC 07:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
I would say Super Mario RPG is heavily related, didn't Ninty and Square work together? Bleh who cares. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 15:02, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Things Done

  • Made the userbox:
This user is a member of the Nintendo Task Force.

And I've asked about the copyright Highway Rainbow Sneakers 13:35, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Good job on the userbox and mario section, though for the userbox, I suggest a border as well as contrasting colors. Perhaps red and black? Red and gray? --TBC??? ??? ??? 13:47, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

The other userbox is done.

Nintendo News Letter

Perhaps we should have a news letter (similar to WikiProject Military History), that could include recent Nintendo news, project proposals, etc? --TBC??? ??? ??? 18:04, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I was thinking of the same thing. Could we use the first issue to promote the project? Highway Rainbow Sneakers 18:38, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm in the middle of doing an example, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 21:18, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

Major edits

I've done a lot of major edits, including adding a "how to write an article" section as well as removing irrelevant sections and improving existing sections. Any comments? --TBC??? ??? ??? 05:14, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Cool. I've almost got Princess Peach to GA (stupid no footnotes), the article is good prose wise. Highway Rainbow Sneakers 07:21, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Hobbies WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:54, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

template created

I created a talk-page template for the pages that fall under this wikiproject. Comments?--Ac1983fan (talkcontribs) 17:24, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I just changed the pic to the Wikitendo one.--Ac1983fan (talkcontribs) 18:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
I preferred the older one. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 19:04, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
Good job, Ac1983fan, though I've changed the picture--TBCO M G! 02:03, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
The picture you added is better. Maybe we should put it in the Userboxes as well.--Ac1983fan (talkcontribs) 14:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
The picture looks great and we should include this in the Useboxes as well. Great job! --Siva1979Talk to me 14:22, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Wikitendo Help

I would like to help as much as I could, can I just put my name on the list? DivineShadow218 19:33, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Sure, everyone's welcome. Cheers, Highway Rainbow Sneakers 19:52, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Collaboration of the fortnight

Any questions or comments about it? It's currently inactive, and I'm not sure when to start it. --TBCO M G! 20:48, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

To Do List

Do we happen to have a to do list made yet, I will be happy to staryt one tonight if it isnt started yet.--DivineShadow218 22:08, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't think we've made a to do list yet (after all, the wikiproject is still relatively new), so you could defiantly start one if you want to. --TBC 04:17, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Graphic Improvements

I just added my name to the list of members, and I noticed, The graphics for the userboxes and logos, aren't that good. If you would like, I could greatly improve the icons and graphics for you.

DuctoMan 21:52, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

I just thought of a great idea. A NES graphic userbox. I think it would look cool.

DuctoMan 21:54, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

From the looks of it, the W-mushroom was created in Paint in approximately 5 minutes. No offense to the guy who made it.

DuctoMan 21:58, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

It was created in Paint (though not in five minutes, more like three)--TBC 04:20, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I see someone took the liberty of changing the icons last night. Right after I asked to. Well, they look better than before. I could still help out though.

Joining Wikitendo

Hey everyone, I just added my name to the member's list and I look forward to working doing some work around here. Russian Sage 777 01:24, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I also added myself to the list recently. I figure I will try to draw up a to-do list as soon as possible and try to tag all related articles with the wikiproject talk page template.--SomeStranger (T | C) 19:36, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm newish here, too. Hello! :) -- Lee Bailey(talk) 04:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I am going to as well. --Bentendo24 21:16, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Q about Mudkip

Hello everyone. I have been working on Mudkip for a week or so now, and would like to know how I've done so far. Any comments?--Ac1983fan (talkcontribs) 19:37, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

This is certainly much better than it was, but it still needs a lot of work. For starters the opening paragraph is rather choppy. I understand the desire to use references (and the need), but attempting to shove so much information in there at once without any sort of transitional sentences is not a good idea. The rest of the article is also in the same sort of state. I would definatley expand on some Pokémon related ideas that, while they may be obvious to one who has played the game, are far beyond the scope of someone who has never once played. Specifically I would work on the following:
overused Pokémon" -- What defines an overused pokemon? Does this affect it? Who determines if it is overused?
"Due to Mudkip's weakness to electricity, most people evolve it into Marshtomp at the first chance they get." This statement reeks of POV, either find some sort of source, or modify it.
Those are just some of the things you could do. In general the article, as I mentioned earlier. Seems to make too many leaping assumptions about the knowledge base of the reader. Consider expanding a bit on the basics before you do anything else. Problems aside this is a great start to an article. Good work!--SomeStranger (T | C) 01:29, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Agreeing with SomeStranger about explaning terms from the Pokemon game universe. I'll add further comments on Mudkip's talk page. -- Lee Bailey(talk) 03:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Fair Use Question

Does anyone know if images from game manuals are fair-usable? -- Lee Bailey(talk) 20:32, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

I beleave it counts under the GFDL, but check other pics from game manuals to make sure. I think Link's page has a couple of them. JQF 00:40, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
I know I've seem them around, they're definately in some articles -- just not in large enough numbers that I felt comfortable adding one without asking. I'm going to go ahead and operate under the assumption that this is okay, but if anyone finds out otherwise, please let me know here or on my talk page stay on the right side of the law :) -- Lee Bailey(talk) 00:52, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Video Game Current Events Project

Would anyone like to join this? All help would be greatly appreciated, and is much needed.Current computer and video games events. JonTheGamer

Hey, I've been adding events each day, and some other people have been helping out with moving the July page and such. Were you looking to make some other changes? I Jethrobot 05:28, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi. Please leave the WP:CVG banner on the talk pages. They automatically classify an article for the Wikipedia 1.0 project. If you could put {{cvgproj|class=|importance=}} back on any pages that they have been removed from, that would be appreciated. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 07:03, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

That's my bad. I went and removed them from some pages, since I assumed that they would be later removed because they would be redundant with {{NESproj}}. Of course, when I made the NESproj template, the cvgproj didn't have the class and importance things.--Ac1983fan (talkcontribs) 17:23, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Questions about List of F-Zero GX pilots

Instead of a list, should each pilot have their own article (like the Mario characters)? They all would be about the same length as Captain Falcon's. This list could be impractical and even longer (if not already) if, for example, F-Zero RX is released for the Wii. FullMetal Falcon 00:31, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't think each individual character has enough information to have their own article, but on the other hand, there is an article for each individual pokémon, so why not?--SomeStranger(t) 00:33, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
    • Pokémon is a somewhat different case, as each monster has a heck of a lot of information to be put down in an article, and also there is a whole other WikiProject to decide what's best for the critturs. Half of the GX pilots have information that you could fit on the back of a postage stamp; the others have their own articles anyway. I think we'd best leave it as a list. NP Chilla 12:18, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Rename?

If the list is kept, what about a rename to "List of F-Zero Pilots"? As is, I don't think the list is future proof. Also, GX pilots leaves out the racers in the GBA games. FullMetal Falcon 20:26, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Spoiler tags

Hi everyone. I'm not a member of this WikiProject, but given that it -- along with all the other video game WikiProjects -- is technically a subsidiary of the overall Computer and Video Games WikiProject, I thought I'd bring to your attention this proposal for the deletion of spoiler tags from all computer and video game articles. An in-depth explanation of the reasoning behind this can be found on the discussion page I've linked to (and a lot of additional discussion on the matter can be found in the places linked to from there, such as the spoiler warning talk page and this archive from it, in which a motion to contest the spoiler warning's Guideline status was successfully put forth), but to briefly summarize the reasoning behind this:

"In no way do [spoiler tags] actually contribute to the encyclopedia's purpose of being informative about subjects on a comprehensive level, and, in actuality, they're redundant of the fact that this is an encyclopedia. An encyclopedia is defined as a comprehensive source of information on a variety of subjects. This is...not a fansite or blog. Also, given that Wikipedia is not censored -- and, again, given that it is an encyclopedia -- what encyclopedic purpose are spoiler tags serving? The answer is 'not a single one.' We already have a spoiler warning accessible from the bottom of every page of this encyclopedia. Wikipedia need not constantly reiterate that it is an encyclopedia."

If all of you could drop by and weigh in on this, we'd all appreciate it. We really feel like we're working toward the betterment of video game articles on Wikipedia -- and the betterment of Wikipedia as a whole -- by pushing for the removal of this unencyclopedic content. Thanks for your time. Ryu Kaze 22:07, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Project to-do list

I've noticed that the articles on this project's to-do list aren't really getting a lot of attention. I know this is still a new project, but I'm wondering about the placement of the to-do box. Would anyone object if I attempted to reformat the project page a little in order to move the list up where it might be seen? -- Lee Bailey(talk) 02:24, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Given this a shot, in the spirit of boldness... -- (Lee)Bailey(talk) 04:28, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Good job, the to-do box looks great.--TBCTaLk?!? 06:30, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. :) Hopefully having the collaboration link handy will be helpful in getting that off the ground, too. -- (Lee)Bailey(talk) 19:28, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia is using a fair use image to illustrate the Wi-Fi Connector? Oh pul-eeze...this thing must be in thousands of homes now. Does anybody have and and can take a photograph of it so we don't have to use this promo image? Hbdragon88 19:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I replaced the image in the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector articles with the JPEG on Commons. Dancter 19:46, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Cool. I've tagged the image with {{orfud}} accordingly. Hbdragon88 05:45, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

New

Hi, I'm still quite new to the whole world of wikipedia, and while I am just getting the hang of all this editing business, I am still clueless on how to join a wikiproject. Nintendo has been one of my passions since I was little, and I would very much like to be a part of this project (if you could use my help that is). I have already edited several pages (nothing major mind you) in the relam of Nintendo, and I plan to do some more once I get a bit of free time between my summer and fall semester. Thanks, HumanZoom 11:20, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Welcome! Just add your name to the list of members on the project page and you're signed up. You can help out with Wikipedia:WikiProject Nintendo/Vital - the articles listed there are all important to improve. We can use all the help that we can get. Thanks. Jjam189 01:36, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
