Roadway Referencing System

I didn't see it listed on the article page: INDOT has a Roadway Referencing System online, which gives mileage to the hundredths place (it's organized by district). Mapsax (talk) 18:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I neglected to mention that INDOT also has interchange diagrams to help decipher that data within complex interchanges (the collection is a bit out of date, and erroneously shows US-33 following US-20 and US-31 to the Michigan state line, but I'm sure it'd be useful). Due to INDOT website restructuring, there is now no longer a page that lists only the roadway referencing system manuals. However, they are linked on the INDOT manuals page. Omnedon (talk) 12:08, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Merging of articles

This is the first time I have seen discontinuous highways split into separate articles such as Indiana State Road 4. Is anyone opposed to merging these into one article? Also, if consensus is to keep them separate, I would suggest moving Indiana State Road 4 (middle) to Indiana State Road 4 (central), middle just doesn't sound right. --Holderca1 ^talk 20:45, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I would support merging the articles. I gather that in cases like State Road 4, the sections were never continuous but always existed separately, whereas others were at one time continuous and were later split. There is a difference, and to some extent I can see the logic that was applied; but if two sections of highway have the same designation but different histories, the sections can easily be described separately within a single article. This is done on the Indiana Highway Ends pages, and it works; and it also works here on Wikipedia for highways like Indiana State Road 43, which has two sections. Since there has been no further discussion on this, I plan to proceed with merging. I see no benefit to the reader of having the articles separate; the fact that some roads may have been established separately but with the same number is probably not significant to the reader who just wants to find out about the road. All sections of a road can easily be described in one article, as has been done successfully with many other Indiana state road articles. Omnedon (talk) 18:22, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Coordinators' working group

Hi! Article alerts

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Indiana Highway Ends website linkrot

All links to illi-indi.com (lots) are dead and need to have the domain changed to highwayexplorer.com . Mapsax (talk) 00:29, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Use of jct template

Progress update: virtually all of the articles for current Indiana state roads now use the jct template in both the infobox and the "major intersections" section. Omnedon (talk) 18:04, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Multiple designations

Per "Merging of Articles" above, the WikiProject page needs to be altered. There is no benefit to the reader to using multiple articles to describe a state road. True, some state highways were once contiguous and were then split into sections for one reason or another, while others consist of multiple segments that were created separately. However, to take State Road 4 as an example: the State of Indiana documents at [1] do not list the sections separately, and do not start each section at mile 0; and the Indiana Highway Ends site describes all three section on the same page. The article for Indiana State Road 43 describes multiple sections in the same article quite successfully, and there are many others. Only SR 4, 8 and 11 are treated separately, which (again) is not of any aid to the reader. Omnedon (talk) 14:12, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
