A start

[edit]

I'm constantly referencing the WikiProject Plants taxon template, so I figured it'd be helpful to have something more general to apply to all organisms.

The trickiest part was generalizing the "Ecology and behavior" section. I took a look at around 100 good articles about plants, animals, fungi, and viruses and found a wide mixture of sections called Ecology, Behavior, Biology, Ecology and behavior, Biology and behavior, etc. I did some basic tallying of common section and subsection titles and ended up with what's in the taxon article template currently.

Happy to hear other thoughts on improving or streamlining it! Thanks. —Hyperik talk 01:38, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Hyperik:, I compiled a list of organismal WikiProject content guidelines a few months back at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Animals#Sections_within_animal_articles:_is_there_any_defined_sequence?. Plantdrew (talk) 19:08, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A main level section on "threats"?

[edit]

I'd like to propose that there is a main level section called "threats" that is included just before "conservation". A brief explanation on threats would be important in today's world, when so many of Earth's species are threatened by biodiversity loss. Having it as a sub-heading under "conservation" is another option but I don't think this is ideal. Conservation puts a positive spin on it ("look at the great things that we humans are doing to protect this species!") whereas "threats" would describe it as it is: a big problem. I am posting this here as prompted by a discussion on the talk page of flowering plant, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Flowering_plant#Conservation_is_certainly_an_'interaction_with_humans' EMsmile (talk) 10:14, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On second thoughts, let's continue the discussion here on the main talk page of this project. EMsmile (talk) 10:28, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
