Maximum and century breaks made by... articles
I think these are quite handy and interesting articles. We currently have one for Ronnie O'Sullivan and one for Judd Trump. Are there any plans to create corresponding articles for John Higgins and Stephen Hendry, considering that they also have huge max/century counts (11/825 & 11/775)? Assuming you have all the relevant data & sources at your disposal, I would definitely be able to help with this. Rodney Baggins (talk) 09:37, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- There's a big problem with these in that it's very difficult to match up the reported totals with the centuries scored in each event, and currently I'm not planning any others. Take Ronnie for instance. A report from 17 April 2005 "The holder and World No.1 recorded a break of 115 in a 12-minute sixth frame to take his career total of century breaks to 400." but try as I might, I can't get that to match up with the reported 479 at the end of 2006–07 season (which seems to make sense). Trump works out ok because he started later than the others (or maybe it was just luck). Robertson is quite close to working out but there's a discrepancy of 1 in the early years somewhere. And with Hendry I'm floundering completely. My suspicion is that, on occasions, centuries were missed at the time and then added later when the omission was discovered, meaning that some of the reported milestones were wrong (but never corrected, and who cares, I suppose). There's some WP:OR on this, eg https://www.scribd.com/document/469391774/1919-2020-major-players-docx but very little that we can possibly use. Nigej (talk) 10:27, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- Oh that's a real shame. It just struck me that as we only have Ronnie & Judd, the Higgins/Hendry omission seemed a bit odd, almost a bit biassed, but I can certainly see what the problem is. Thanks, Rodney Baggins (talk) 10:37, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- We're borderline OR with these articles anyway, perhaps justified by the fact that there's considerable interest in the totals. Nigej (talk) 11:27, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- I must say, I thought they were pretty much all OR/SYNTH anyway. We don't really have any sources talking about the career centuries and spelling it out. I have more issues in terms of consistency that we have individual articles for O'Sullivan's seasons, such as 2020–21 Ronnie O'Sullivan snooker season which seems like much more of a WP:CRUFT issue. Defending champion
Just a quickie. Do we really need the "defending_champion" parameter in {{Infobox individual snooker tournament}}? Normally it gets deleted after the tournament anyway. Best to remove it IMO. Nigej (talk) 18:50, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
- I think it is suitable for future events. Whether or not it should remain in the article (as a "previous champion" or similar) is a different debate. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:34, 24 February 2021 (UTC)
