Some outstanding issues
Hi all! I hope you are all well. I've been quite busy and I've been meaning to write up some things that have been brought up recently to discuss and gain some consensus.
- The ordering of our results came up at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/1984 World Snooker Championship/archive1. Basically the argument is that the results should be in chronological order, i.e. that our results for qualification should be above those for the main draw. This makes quite a bit of sense, and I've looked through other sports and this is how they manage this - see motor sport, darts, even football etc.
- I suppose chronological is a good idea. But having more important things first is also a good idea. See 2020 PDC World Darts Championship#Draw where the last-8 matches appears before the earlier rounds, defying the chronological idea. 2019 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles follows a similar style. Personally I prefer it as it is (for the snooker events). Nigej (talk) 14:25, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- I've created snooker's first good topic, which was based around the 1985 World Snooker Championship final article. Is there any other specific matches that would meet GNG? I think we could have such an article for a few events, such as the Masters' final between Hendry and Williams. Any thoughts on this? I'd be interested in completing some more topics like this next year, if the specific matches were notable. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:56, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- I suspect that the Davis/Taylor match is in a class of its own. Nigej (talk) 14:25, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
- Colours in season articles. It's been getting steadily more annoying over time. There is a lot of users (mostly IP) that have been adding colours to season articles, mostly warring over what is or isn't a variant event. I don't know why we need to specifically state this, as all we care about is if an event contributes ranking points. Is it worth adding something to our MOS to avoid all these unnecessary colours? - Yes, the season pages are still a major problem. Colours, date format, pointless "Statistics of ranking tournaments" section. As to colours, see 2019–20 snooker season#Calendar. What a complete mess! Looks more like a piece of modern art. Nigej (talk)
I'm taking a bit of time off from content creation over the next few weeks (I'm a little drained after the Wikicup), but don't be afraid to drop me a message if you have any items you'd like some help working on. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:56, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Dodgy source
Hi all, looks like Snooker and Billiards by Ashok Kumar (Discovery Publishing House, 1999) available on Google Books has large chunks literally copied verbatim from Clive Everton's The History of Snooker and Billiards. I'll replace these references where I see them; a quick search for the ISBN suggests this is only in three articles. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:52, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
