New Proposal for FTD

This proposal is now the new scope of the FTD. Cheers, Raime 13:28, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am starting to doubt that this featured topic, as currently proposed, will pass at WP:FTC. Ranking skylines is likely an acceptable topic, but the problem is that List of tallest buildings in the United States is not an appropriate lead article for that topic, and an article such as List of tallest skylines in the United States or List of largest skylines in the United States would likely never pass as featured lists due to issues with original research. Basing our topic criteria on number of a buildings in a city over 500 feet might also receive criticism at WP:FTC. Also, it seems a little strange to have List of tallest buildings in Baltimore as a sub-article for a List of tallest buildings in the United States-led featured topic when no Baltimore buildingsappear in the U.S. list. So, I have drafted a new proposal to use as a basis for a new proposed featured topic based on United States cities' tallest building lists. If you have time, please review and comment below.

Proposal

[edit]

This page is an effort to bring the United States tallest building lists up to Featured topic status. It is based on WP:HOCKEY/FTD, a recent Featured Topic Drive that similarly focused on Hockey Award FLs. The purpose of this page is to make the tallest building lists of each city with a building listed on List of tallest buildings in the United States into individual Featured lists and then the entire subject into a Featured topic, with the main United States list serving as the lead article.

Scope

[edit]

The proposed FT would include the building lists for all U.S. cities with completed or under construction buildings listed on List of tallest buildings in the United States. Cities with proposed or approved skyscrapers that are listed on the US list (that is, cities with proposed buildings 700 feet (210 m) or taller), but no completed or under construction skyscrapers on the list, will not be included unless the aforementioned buildings begin construction. The last two columns are for reference purposes only.

Nation / City Building list List status # completed buildings in US list # U/C buildings in US list
B-Class United States List of tallest buildings in the United States
Atlanta List of tallest buildings in Atlanta 5 0
Boston List of tallest buildings in Boston 2 0
Charlotte List of tallest buildings in Charlotte 1 1
Chicago List of tallest buildings in Chicago 15 7
Cleveland List of tallest buildings in Cleveland 2 0
Dallas List of tallest buildings in Dallas 5
Denver List of tallest buildings in Denver 2 0
Detroit List of tallest buildings in Detroit 1 0
Houston List of tallest buildings in Houston 10 0
Indianapolis List of tallest buildings in Indianapolis 1 0
Jersey City List of tallest buildings in Jersey City 1 0
A-Class Las Vegas List of tallest buildings in Las Vegas 1 2
Los Angeles List of tallest buildings in Los Angeles 8 0
Miami List of tallest buildings in Miami 3 4
Minneapolis List of tallest buildings in Minneapolis 3 0
B-class Mobile List of tallest buildings in Mobile 1 0
New York City List of tallest buildings in New York City 36 8
Philadelphia List of tallest buildings in Philadelphia 5 0
Pittsburgh List of tallest buildings in Pittsburgh 2 0
San Francisco List of tallest buildings in San Francisco 2 0
Seattle List of tallest buildings in Seattle 3 0

Therefore, two cities, Indinanapolis and Mobile, will be added to the scope. This means that three remaining lists will need to become Fls: List of tallest buildings in the United States, List of tallest buildings in Las Vegas, and List of tallest buildings in Mobile (the latter may be exempt because of its short length, but still needs to be of FL-quality). Four cities, Columbus, New Orleans, Tulsa, and Tampa, would be removed from the scope of the proposed FT.

Cities that have proposed 700 ft+ skyscrapers

[edit]

The following cities have no completed or under construction buildings at least 700 feet (210 m) high, but they do have ones that are proposed or approved. Before submitting this FT, we should try to make each of these an FL should it be requested by a reviewer or should a building begin construction.

City Building list List status # approved buildings in US list # proposed buildings in US list
Austin List of tallest buildings in Austin Start-class 0 1
New Orleans List of tallest buildings in New Orleans 1 0
Nashville List of tallest buildings in Nashville Start-class 1 0
Oakland List of tallest buildings in Oakland B-Class 0 1
Oklahoma City List of tallest buildings in Oklahoma City 1 0
Sacramento List of tallest buildings in Sacramento Start-class 0 1

What do other users think?

Since there are no objections, I am going to alter the scope of the featured topic drive. Cheers, Raime 13:25, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
