Request for comment on Biographies of living people
[edit]Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:
Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people
Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.
The two opposing positions which have the most support is:
- supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
- opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect
Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.
Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

- At the moment this would only affect one article - Scouting for Girls - which is referenced, so there's nothing for WP:SFG to worry about at the moment. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 14:09, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- Lol there is only one biographical article in this subject. Oh well. thanks for responding... best wishes! Ikip 22:06, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Is this project worthy of an ad? I don't know what makes one suitable. Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 15:34, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

- Right, it's done. You can see it above in other news This Ain't a Love Song (Scouting for Girls song) has been deleted. Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 16:17, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately my internet connection doesn't allow animated gifs to load so I can't see it in full :( The article was redirected, not deleted. I have to agree, since the song hasn't charted and therefore fails WP:NSONGS. It's released next week though, so perhaps next Sunday when the chart is released, the article can be recreated (or just revert the redirect with the new information added to it). anemoneprojectors talk 19:30, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Suggestions
[edit]- Recreate on Sunday when the official chart is revealed on Radio 1. As long as it's in the top 40 it'll pass WP:NSONGS. Listing the iTunes chart position is not allowed as iTunes is listed on WP:BADCHARTS as a chart relating to a single retailer. anemoneprojectors talk 12:23, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Do you have any other suggestions on how to improve it? Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 12:43, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- If some information on the background of the song is available, what it's about, etc, that would be good, and something about the music video. But the article still won't be recreatable until it charts. anemoneprojectors talk 13:57, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's #1 on the midweek charts. Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 08:06, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- Midweek charts aren't official. But the article was recreated yesterday and hasn't been redirected because people got fed up for continuously having to revert changes. The midweek chart shouldn't be mentioned though. anemoneprojectors talk 11:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, that's good. And I already knew that it was recreated. Many thanks, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 11:56, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Sound sample
[edit]I don't have the single and I would like to know if anybody could upload a sound sample of the song to enhance the article. It would also be useful for some of the other songs, too. Cheers, Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 10:36, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
- Anybody? Rock drum (talk·contribs·guestbook) 13:39, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- I have uploaded sound samples in the past but I am no longer able to create them to Wikipedia's standards. Only one of my samples remains on Wikipedia as the others were orphaned and then deleted, though I don't know what the reason was. AnemoneProjectors 17:53, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

That Jason Manford comedy show
[edit]I can't remembr the name of it, but there's a new show hosted by Jason Manford and SFG are the "house band", whatever that means.--92.251.142.219 (talk) 21:30, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Sandbox article (Roy Stride)
[edit]Hi guys, Do you think that the article is ready for publication? If so, can I move it? Thanks, Rock drum Ba-dumCrash 17:46, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
- No. I don't think any members of the band will be worthy of a separate article unless they move on and do something else that's not part of SFG. AnemoneProjectors 20:07, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
We have a book!
[edit]I've just created Book:Scouting for Girls. I'm not sure what to tag it as. Rock drum Ba-dumCrash 16:50, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

- Book class on the WikiProject template. At the moment it doesn't exist. Rock drum Ba-dumCrash 07:59, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Does it really need to exist? It's not like there are going to be several books relating to this project. AnemoneProjectors 01:49, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, point understood. Rock drum Ba-dumCrash 07:31, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Then again we have it for other things that only have one of its type, so I might as well add it in... AnemoneProjectors 21:30, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
[edit]Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
[edit]Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
User script to detect unreliable sources
[edit]I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
