Template percussion example articles
Many of the example articles cited in the updated footer template (below) do not comply to Wikipedia:WikiProject Percussion/Percussion instrument article skeleton.
Immediate objective is to make them all adequately categorised and with the infobox, with at least an image and Hornbostel-Sachs details, and (of course!) footer. Any that are problematical even for these scanty details should be removed from or replaced in the footer.
When that is done, give the examples in the old version of the footer [1] the same treatment. Andrewa (talk) 01:35, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Done the first two, Carillon and Crotales. That's 100% needed work so far, even to come up to this minimal standard! Andrewa (talk) 03:13, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
And handbell looked easy, but it turned out to be a problem in many ways one of which I'm sleeping on, see Talk:Handbell#HS classification. Andrewa (talk) 05:59, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
- Resolved, http://www.music.ed.ac.uk/euchmi/cimcim/uymhs03.pdf supersedes whatever revision our current HS article was based on and makes this decision clear. Andrewa (talk) 04:44, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Got as far as timpani (first occurrence), first article not to need work... just as well as a former featured article. Andrewa (talk) 18:08, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Finished I think... well, some outstanding funnies but I think anything particularly embarassing is fixed. Andrewa (talk) 15:07, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Igba
Fascinating, see Igba, Talk:Igba. Two drums by one name? Or changing culture? Andrewa (talk) 04:37, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Redirects needing fixing
A large number of instrument names, such as Itótele, link to List of Caribbean membranophones instead of to the article on the individual instrument or family of instruments, in this case Batá drum. Andrewa (talk) 17:55, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Core articles
Wikipedia:WikiProject Percussion/Core has no discussion page, and has not been edited since the day of its creation [2]. But it's a start! Intending to work through them and get them all to a START standard at least. Andrewa (talk) 07:04, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Added some images to percussion instrument, the first entry in the core articles list. There were none!
We don't rank articles by importance, but WikiProject Music has raked it as TOP, a rating they give to only 35 of almost 1,000 assessed articles.
Both projects rank it as C class in quality. It is barely that IMO. A good place for some more effort. Andrewa (talk) 19:30, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
- Made a start - images, tuned/untuned -> pitched/unpitched, minor fixes. Andrewa (talk) 15:27, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Instruments
Current list, to be annotated as I go.

My checks above include that the article has
- The instrument infobox template with
- Classification and background both set to Percussion
- A good image, and image caption if helpful
- An accurate HS classification
- The Percussion footer template
- Membership of at least one subcategory of each of the four container subcategories of Category:Percussion instruments
- A talk page with the WikiProject Percussion banner
but may stop there, except I'll probably remove it from Category:Percussion instruments if it's there directly and remove any other glaring overcategorisations. Andrewa (talk) 19:16, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Gretsch Drums
Gretsch Drums badly needs refs. PRODed for lack of them. No, really. Stop laughing. Somebody thinks they don't deserve a Wikipedia article. Or maybe they're an undercover Mapex employee, or even a non-notable tuba player whose mother was scared by a Gretsch Broadkaster Max Roach snare drum. Scary thoughts (seriously scary drum too), but no sillier than the PROD. See Talk:Gretsch Drums. Andrewa (talk) 09:25, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Emil Richards Collection
Much ado, see page history and many AfDs, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Viscount Bells, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stone marimba, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pipe gamelan, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Flapamba, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dharma Bells.
