Tagging articles

currently working on tagging all fantasy novels listed in the fantasy novels catagory, i'm going from U onwards, U and V have allready been done. i suggest that anyone else working on this write here which letters he has done so as to save time. Snafu25 13:39, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Done quite a few already , starting A-Z already at T. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:48, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

then stop once you finish T, i'll be finished with the rest by the end of the day. maybe we should split the rest of what needs to be tagged? Snafu25 17:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

New Articles

Is there a list of articles that need to be made? Or will there be one? A Gift of Dragons by Anne McCaffery is listed Pern's template but there's no article for it. Applejaxs 15:45, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

You can add this to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/ArticlesNeeded - which I have done for you. Add others here. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:27, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Mass deletions

Mass deletions in the fantasy genre are currently being foreshadowed or implemented by User:Gavin.collins. See Azure Bonds. Xxanthippe 04:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC).

foreshadowing of mass deletions has started again by User:Gavin.collins see: Azure Bonds and Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Gavin.collins. Xxanthippe (talk) 22:45, 30 January 2008 (UTC).

I'm not quite sure if he's considered a fantasy writer but I've done a few novel stubs recently to fill in some red links. These have survived quite a few AfD or Prods so far. If anyone would like to look them over and add a cat or whatever, then feel free. Nick mallory (talk) 12:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I would have thought him more Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Novels/Science fiction task force material. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 16:07, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
You're kidding, right? The Eternal Champion books (an interconnected group of multiple series) is IMHO one of the greatest bodies of fantasy works ever. Dfmclean (talk) 16:55, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
"one of the greatest bodies of fantasy works ever". Don't agree with that. It's good, but not that good. Nowhere near. Also, some of his stuff is SF, so surely just putting him up for both. Alan16 (talk) 22:29, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Plot request

I was wondering if any one would like to write a plot summary for the book Honoured Enemy by Raymond E. Feist & William R. Forstchen to bring the pages notability up. I would do it myself, but im not very good at writing plot summaries. Thanks, Salavat (talk) 01:29, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

The lack of a Plot summary is not the key issue. It is "how is the novel notable"? If you can add references and source that talk about the success and influence of the novel i.e. true notability issues the page will gain value. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:37, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Prodding Discworld reading order

Discworld reading order was prodded but the code was removed. However it may come back.--Tbmorgan74 (talk) 22:40, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Deleted now via AFD; links should probably be removed from book articles, etc. 205.167.180.130 (talk) 18:34, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

We should support that article, and I always wanted to expand the character lists into full fledged articles. But I hesitate because prodders will always be vicious in their overzealous deleting.--Tbmorgan74 (talk) 22:43, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

I support this idea, as I am currently re-reading the series, and I think "The Black Company's" impact on modern fantasy is badly underestimated by too many people. Alan16 (talk) 01:07, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Prod wild fresney

I have prodded Wild fresney because of the following concern: article will never be reasonably expanded or properly sourced. Matchups (talk) 04:28, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Character Page Expansion (David Eddings / Belgariad)

I am considering adding individual character pages for some of the red-linked main characters on the Belgariad character list. A few of these characters already have individual stubs (Belgarion, Beldin) and others are red links (Zedar, Riva Iron-Grip). My main question is this: is it appropriate (from a notability standpoint) to add these pages, or is the character list better left as a simple list? (If you can't tell, I'm new... so I'm a bit unsure of the community's standards) Archonaran (talk) 20:07, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Beyond Belgarion, Belgarath, and Polgara, I don't think individual articles are merited. I suggest merging the Beldin and Durnik articles back into the list. --Thetrick (talk) 15:46, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey guys, this article has been sitting around unsourced for a while on my watchlist and I have no idea where to go to start sourcing it. I'd guess that cites from the books would do, personally, but I haven't read them. Just lettin' you guys know, so hopefully someone can work on it. Cheers! --lifebaka (Talk - Contribs) 17:18, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I've read all of them, and all that information about the characters, including their fur colour, or their eye colour for example is shown at the front. But the information on what they do, is found within the books too.--EshInoBi (talk) 08:02, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Request for comment on fictional characters guideline proposal

Figured I'd bring this to the attention of this project, since I think it's something that affects most folks here, the setting of a baseline of notability for fictional characters: Wikipedia talk:Notability (fiction)#RfC: Proposing WP:FICT for global acceptance. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! The Lord of the Rings: FA review

The Lord of the Rings has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. --Davémon (talk) 09:59, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

This article, about Ann from the Sword of Truth seris, is showing as being within the scope of this task force, so I thought I'd alert you that it's up on Articles for Deletion. Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Fantasy fiction

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:27, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Question

I have a question. If we sign the participants list, instead of just the guest book list; are we forced to provide content on a set basis, or just update when we find the time, need, etc.? Kalga (talk) 16:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

No one forces anything - everything here is volunteer based. But you do what you can do - however the expectation would be that a participant tries to at least "participate". :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 17:01, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Okay then. Do as much as you find you can, then? Right. Thanks. Kalga (talk) 19:36, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Stan Nicholls

I have put the article up for deletion. It needs some serious work, or it needs to go. Anyone knowledgeable about him and willing to work on it? Alan16 (talk) 22:30, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Does your WikiProject care about talk pages of redirects?

Does your project care about what happens to the talk pages of articles that have been replaced with redirects? If so, please provide your input at User:Mikaey/Request for Input/ListasBot 3. Thanks, Matt (talk) 01:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello, the pages in this category appear to be an unsourced, in-universe free for all. Perhaps a masochistic editor familiar with Tamora Pierce books would like to tackle it. Best, momoricks 06:49, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I was just thinking that someday we might think about expanding our focus to include videos and moves. It is after all some form of Fantasy media and should not be forgotten about. Sebastian (novel) updated

I'm relatively new to editing wikipedia, so please forgive me if I've done anything incorrectly. I spent a fair amount of time today and yesterday editing Sebastian_(novel) page. I filled in the list of characters, added an infobox, edited the existing text for style and added a link.

Once I'd made these changes, I edited the discussion page to upgrade the article from "Stub" to "Start", and to remove the status of needing an infobox.

It's got a suggestion at the top of the page that there should be more footnotes, but I just can't think of what I could footnote, since everything on the page comes directly from the original source material. Any advice?

Thanks for your feedback. (elegantelbow) 01:23, 24 July 2009

All done fairly well - very well if you are new to wikipedia. Still really a stub as there are few references, non in-line and the content is almost all in-universe. Could do with more real world content. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:09, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Images of book covers in book series articles

There is discussion on how best to use cover art to "significantly improve reader understanding" for book series, without going overboard on non-free content images, both at WT:NFC#Requesting_comment_about_galleries_of_book_covers_for_book_series_articles and at Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2009 July 23, where a very large number of book covers has been nominated for deletion.

Please do pass this on to any other relevant WikiProjects or sub-projects whose members may be interested. Jheald (talk) 00:30, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Help with New Articles

I have started an article for The Other Lands, Acacia Book two by David Anthony durham in my special pages section(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Apoorv020/The_Other_Lands). However, I am new to wikipedia, so I would request other people to help me with this page. Apoorv020 (talk) 12:34, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Made a few structural changes - I would add as much "real-world" material you can find - and any notability material you can - then put it into main namespace. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 17:26, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Notability of Neustrian Cycle

There is a discussion about the notability of the books of the Neustrian Cycle of mediaeval fantasies and their author at Leslie Barringer and Joris of the Rock. Other books of the cycle are Gerfalcon and Shy Leopardess. Further books by Barringer are the historical novels Kay the Left-Handed and Know Ye Not Agincourt?. Editors with knowledge of these matters are invited to participate in the discussion. Xxanthippe (talk) 10:59, 1 December 2009 (UTC).

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, nearly all wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced article if they are not sourced, so your project may want to pursue the projects below.

Help with The Orphan's Tales

Some time ago, I created pages for Catherynne M. Valente's The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden and The Orphan's Tales: In the Cities of Coin and Spice. Now, however, I think it would be better to combine them under a page for the series The Orphan's Tales. Problem is I'm not exactly sure the best way to do that. Write an article for the series The Orphan's Tales, then blank the other two articles and redirect them to the new one? There are no discussions other than what I had posted, so nothing would be lost. Or is there a better method for combining articles? Thanks! -CaptainJae (talk) 18:49, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

The article Kinson Ravenlock has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for reference failed to find published (gBooks) independent references for this fictional character, fails WP:N and WP:V

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Alphabetical categories

After visiting Category:Lists of fantasy books I put List of Middle-earth writings under 'M' or under 'T' for Tolkien in all of its categories. Checking those categories in turn, I noticed that zillions of pages under Category:Fantasy books or Category:Fantasy lists "need" editing for this. Commonly but not always those pages have titles beginning with 'List' or with author firstname. --P64 (talk) 14:46, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
