Assessment for pages
[edit]How should we assess articles for seasons, managers, players, playoff appearances for the Mets? Most players who played for the Mets will be categorized as low-importance. But for some players they will either have somewhere between mid to top importance. I've assessed Tom Seaver and David Wright as being top importance. Managers such as Terry Collins and Bobby Valentine I tagged as high but can be seen by some as top considering how impactful they were and the respective playoff appearance they led the Mets to. The 1969 and 1986 seasons and world series are of top importance because the Mets won the world series those years. But should seasons where they didn't win and made an unsuccessful playoff run could be given high importance, such as 1973, 1988, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2015, 2016.
Tagging the active members for their views: Leggomygreggo8, D. Benjamin Miller, Deansfa, Dennis C. Abrams, DarkStarHarry, Timtempleton.
But the list below should be given considerable thought. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 16:51, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
Seasons
[edit]Top importance:
- 1962 since it was the first season
- 1969 including the playoff series
- 1986 including the playoff series
High importance:
- 1973 and its playoff series
- 1988
- 1999
- 2000
- 2006
- 2007 (even though they didn't make the playoff, the run and impact of the collapse was important in its own right)
- 2008 (even though they didn't make the playoff, the run and impact of the collapse was important in its own right)
- 2015 and its playoff series
- 2016 and the wild card game
All other seasons would count as low importance, I don't see any mid-importance season articles. This would be 1963-1968; 1970-1972; 1974-1987; 1989-1998; 2001-2005; 2009-2014; 2017-2021 and maybe even 2022.
Managers and coaches
[edit]Top importance:
- Casey Stengel
- Davey Johnson
- Bobby Valentine (currently high)
- Terry Collins (currently high)
High importance:
Mid importance:
- Jerry Manuel
- Maybe Buck Showalter although he hasn't managed a game at this time.
Everyone else could be of low importance. For coaches, I think Dan Warthen is of high importance given his long tenure. But I think the rest of the coaches are low but could be mid importance if they were part of a playoff team.
Exectuives
[edit]Owners and GMs could be given top importance. The Wilpons, Nelson Doubleday, Steve Cohen, Joan Whitney Payson are of top importance. GMs such as George Weiss, Johnny Murphy, Frank Cashen are of top importance. I tagged Sandy Alderson as high importance but maybe he is of top importance. Omar Minaya, Steve Phillips, maybe John Ricco, and J. P. Ricciardi are of high importance. The rest can be considered low. Saul Katz and M. Donald Grant are either mid or high depending on their impact. The rest are low in my view.
Players
[edit]As mentioned above, Tom Seaver and David Wright are of top importance. But the list can be expanded to others such as Keith Hernandez, Gary Carter, Mike Piazza, Bob Ojeda, Ron Darling, etc. Maybe high-importance players are members of the greatest infield ever, Johan Santana, Carlos Beltrán, Carlos Delgado, Jose Reyes, maybe even Todd Pratt for the famous home run in the 1999 NLDS. While the majority are low, I'm not sure who would count as mid, maybe Luis Castillo, Jason Bay.
Also, do all members of the New York Mets Hall of Fame who are not the players like that of Hernandez, Carter, etc, count as high-importance?
Broadcasters
[edit]I tagged Ralph Kiner as top importance. Maybe Bob Murphy, Lindsey Nelson, Gary Cohen, Howie Rose fall under the same level. Gary Thorne perhaps is of high importance. And the rest are low such as sideline reporters. None of this includes former players who became broadcasters for the team.
Maybe TV and radio networks such as SNY and WFAN would be of high or top importance. The rest are low.
Minor league teams
[edit]How should we assess all the minor league teams? Does the tenure of these teams being affiliated with the Mets determine either high-class or mid-class in the case of the Norfolk Tides, Buffalo Bisons, Syracuse Mets, Las Vegas 51s to name a few?
List articles
[edit]Lastly, the articles for lists of players, managers, executives, first-round draft picks, etc, are probably either of low or mid importance. I'm undecided on this one.
