List of Superfund sites in New York City?

[edit]

A List of Superfund sites in New York exists. Would a List of Superfund sites in New York City be useful? Or a Superfund sites in New York City article, not a list, discussing the history, the current, the past, and potential future superfund sites. Thoughts? --Wil540 art (talk) 17:34, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Far as I see, no concerted effort is underway in the real world for all those sites and just those, so it doesn't matter much whether we have either a history article or a list article. Each individual site might be discussed in an article about its neighborhood, and maybe some environmentalist article, geographically broader than the neighborhood ones, should mention the superfund sites in general. But, seems to me, there isn't enough to make more than a good few paragraphs. Jim.henderson (talk) 16:01, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Jim.henderson, well articulated and good points. Upon reflection, I agree and think updating the neighborhood articles with local environmental info is a good place to start. --Wil540 art (talk) 17:01, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

joining this group

[edit]

hi @Wil540 art. I would like to join this task force. is there an established way to join as a participant? thanks. Sm8900 (talk) 17:21, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Sm8900, good question. Do you think I should add a userlist at the bottom where people can join? What would joining entail? A couple ways to join/support the task force is to show up at events or participate remotely or independently work on the work-lists or host a NYC related environment event! Just a heads up, I created the article for Herbert Von King Park, and I included it in a few other links, but I didn't wanna miss anywhere it could be linked. Any tips to expand the article would be appreciated. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:37, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nicely done @Hurricanehink! I add some history I could find. I found it fascinating to learn about the history of the land. Would you like to come present the park article at the next WMNYC WikiWeds, online or in person? Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/June 2023
Also, I shared it on the WMNYC discord: Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Discord. If there are any old maps of the park or photos of it in different weather (snow, rain, etc), those could be additions. Pinging @Epicgenius here who might have some more suggestions about the article. Wil540 art (talk) 22:13, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping @Wil540 art.
@Hurricanehink, I would recommend looking through newspapers.com or ProQuest (both of which are available through the Wikipedia Library or fultonhistory.com to see if historical newspapers mentioned Tompkins Park/Herbert Von King Park. There is a bunch of info about things like its appearance in the late 19th century and a 1907 plan to ban kids from the park, among other things. The article is pretty good already, but these can give you an idea of what to add. (On a side note, I'm really surprised that the page didn't exist earlier, considering it was one of Brooklyn's more notable parks in the late 19th century, before Forest and Prospect parks became popular.) – Epicgenius (talk) 00:34, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
