Thinking of redirecting this one to List of players who appeared in only one game in the NFL (1920–1929). Can't find anything on him. Thoughts? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:19, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- As I suspected there would be, there's a bunch of brief articles and mentions both under the names of "baldy mcgaw" "bud mcgaw" and "mcgaw of beloit" – e.g. [1] and [2] plus others – I see the potential here for something the size of ... eh, Herb Dell give or take a paragraph (random article that came to mind of the length I could probably develop McGaw), and I want to invoke WP:NBASIC, but there does seem to be some resistance to that per the Smith section above... especially when its debatable whether the coverage passes WP:SPORTCRIT... - To be honest, though, I'm currently not that much in the "fight-to-keep-and-expand-one-game-1920s-players"-mood, so I wouldn't offer much opposition to it being redirected. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:02, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- BeanieFan11, I added four of the sources you pointed out and expanded the article a bit. Feel free to expand if you would like, but I see this one as satisfied and will strike from the list. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 19:07, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

A few questions from a newcomer
[edit]I was wondering the following:
- What exactly does SIGCOV stand for? I believe I understand its general purpose (notability) but do not know what the acronym stands for.
- After failing to find appropriate sources following a good-faith search, should we color/strikethrough the player when the deletion claim is filed or after the deletion process is approved by an administrator? Thanks, and Go Bills!
Omyhomie (talk) 02:32, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Omyhomie: Welcome to WikiProject NFL! "SIGCOV" is a term that stands for "significant coverage", which basically refers to in-depth coverage of a subject by a reliable source. It is required for almost all subjects to receive a Wikipedia article (including football players). An example would be this (from an article I wrote), which is specifically about the subject of the article (C. O. Brocato) and contains detailed commentary about the person. As for your second question, if you are proposing an article for deletion, I would wait to see if it does get deleted before striking it through, and you will want to use the following yellow coding – bgcolor=yellow – in addition to the strikethrough. Hope that helps! BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:49, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- You may also want to know that I removed the proposed deletion notice from Sheldon Gaines. Nothing wrong on your part, but I was able to find two sources that appear to be "significant coverage" and added them. BeanieFan11 (talk) 03:01, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Thoughts? I did my best at piecing him together with a few brief mentions here and there. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:27, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Can take a look at some point soon. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:26, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: Its not the strongest pass, but there's enough decent-ish coverage in my opinion that I would advocate keeping. I expanded the article some. BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:57, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks BeanieFan11, you always impress with your ability to find these sources. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:51, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

Finding almost nothing but passing mentions or transactions/injuries. Played 6 games 30 years ago but struggling to find anything. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 23:02, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- Will try to take a look soon... BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:05, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: A quick search brought up an Albuquerque Journal feature story here / here - plus another decent piece here. BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:24, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
- You are a Newspapers.com savant BeanieFan11! One of these days you will have to share your means and methods for narrowing searches. I feel like I always have trouble with generic, wide spread names. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:19, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: Also, interestingly, there's a more in-depth and decent article about him at the Japanese Wikipedia that I just noticed now; haven't looked at the sources there yet, but we've probably already have enough in the Albuquerque coverage. As for how I come across it on Newspapers.com, normally (especially for common names) I narrow it down to the years the person was active (e.g. I might do something like "1987-1997" for Wilson) and all the locations they ever did anything of note (Louisiana, Florida, Wisconsin, New Mexico), then I try looking by every possible way his name could have been mentioned (e.g. Wiltha (his first name) Wilson, Ray Wilson, Raymond Wilson, etc.) BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:16, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

WP:PACKERS pretty much done
[edit]BeanieFan11 and I have pretty much addressed all of the WP:PACKERS players on this list! Over 60 stubs expanded to at least start-class, with many going all the way to GA! I will still be working on stubs here and there. Best of luck on continuing this great campaign. It has actually taught me a lot about the history of the Packers. So many fascinating people! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:09, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
