Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:17, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations

You have a wonderful, well-organized project. I'm the coordinator of the medicine project. Could I steal your Collaboration opportunities and the Collaboration Dashboard. Magic ideas. :) NCurse work 20:58, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I think there is no need to ask for it. All the texts are provided under GFDL license. Anyways the ultimate aim of the WikiProject is to improve the encyclopedia content. If it is good for that project it would be a little help to the medicine project from my side :) Shyam (T/C) 21:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:38, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Integral humanism

The talk page of Integral humanism mentions the (stub) article to be maintained by this project. It appears to me that it could well be a self-promoting article (promoting linked and seemingly dubious sites), hardly more than a hoax, that should be deleted. Else it needs some reliable sources that prove the title to be genuinely notable. Before putting it up for deletion, I suggest members of this Indian politics project to have a look and if it is worth keeping, make a few essential improvements. Kind regards. — SomeHuman 15 Jan2007 08:46 (UTC)

Yes, I do agree with you. I will work out on those politician pages as time permits. So please do not nominate them for deletion. Shyam (T/C) 18:40, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Its notable in Hindu circles and in conservative hindu parties like the BJP. Its not well-known but hardly a hoax. Deendayal Upadhyaya is quite an important figure in Hindu politics.Bakaman 02:09, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Expert review: MCA 21 Project

As part of the Notability wikiproject, I am trying to sort out whether MCA 21 Project is notable enough for an own article. I would appreciate an expert opinion. For details, see the article's talk page. If you can spare some time, please add your comments there. Thanks! --B. Wolterding 13:48, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Comments requested at RfC for Sonia Gandhi page

Hi, I would request memebers of the POI wikiproject to give their opinion over the content of the Sonia Gandhi page at this RfC. I hope this is an appropropriate place for making such a request. Many thanks. ReluctantPhilosopher (talk) 16:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

TinucherianBot can automatically tag articles with {{WP India}} Banner as {{WP India|class=|importance=}} to the talk page of articles without the project banner. It can also add the workgroup paramaters like "|kerala=yes|kerala-importance=" etc ,if needed. The currently supported workgroups are Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bengal, Goa, Himachal Pradesh , Karnataka , Punjab, cities, Cinema, Literature, Protected Areas of India, History, Politics, states, Geography,Maps,Districts and Tamil.

If you need so, you need to provide me with the Categories to run the Bot. Due to some technical issues, the Bot will not run recursively to sub-categories. The requester should kindly verify that there are NO non-related articles in the category.
You may request for the bot run on my talk page... Thanks -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 06:39, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

can you run the bot on the LS constituency pages? or maybe, wait till the last 3 are done. Lihaas (talk) 22:38, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Watchlists

To help this workgroup patrol existing articles for vandalism/recent changes, Ganeshbot has created the Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian politics/Articles page. This page will be updated on a regular basis. Please do remind me if I forget. :) It contains articles that were tagged with the India banner and fall under the scope of this workgroup. Please let me know in case of any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 11:35, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup listings

User:WolterBot has created a Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian politics/Cleanup listing page; it contains the articles that fall under the scope this workgroup and have cleanup tags on them. See this page for more information on this works. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 04:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Indian politics

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:26, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

GA reassessment of P. V. Narasimha Rao

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. As it fails many aspects of the GA criteria I have de-listed it. When the issues have been fixed, it can be renominated at WP:GAN. If you disagree with the reassessment you may ask for a community reassessment at WP:GAR. You can see the concerns at Talk:P. V. Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian politics/Archive 2/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian politics/Archive 2/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:47, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian politics/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 37 articles to be referenced, a 5.1% reduction from last week. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:20, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Indian politics articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Indian politics articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Getting Mafia Raj to GA status

I was reading up on the Mafia Raj article, and I must say the article is certainly well-written. The prose is good, everything is referenced; I do feel it is worthy of GA status. Perhaps this WikiProject can do something about this? Of course, it will be a good idea to add some context sections, such as 'Background' and 'History' to make the article even more comprehensive and all-rounded. FA shouldn't be too far off either. Just some comments for an outsider. Cheers, ANGCHENRUI Talk 12:40, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 21:21, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

The article Kamraj Desiya Congress has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references finds only a single very minor published (gBooks) reference to the subject, fails WP:V and WP:N

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Indian politics will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Indian politics. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Tag and Assess 2012

The Tag & Assess Drive 2012 has been devised for pending backlog in WP India to achieve

  • Quality assessments for unassessed WP India articles.
  • Adding importance missed during previous assessment.
  • Bringing more articles into the scope of the project and subject them to assessment.

So far 8706 assessments (including quality and importance) have been performed in a span of 10 days. The drive is still open and we encourage participants from WP Indian Politics to enroll themselves. WP Indian politics is one of the daughter projects having huge assessement backlog. The participation would be very much appreciated - thanks in advance.

RFC on Nautrality at Narendra Modi

Asking about whether the article on the prominent and controversial Indian Hindu nationalist politican Narendra is currently neutral.·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 21:43, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

The first article above has no independent sources. The second has sources, but is not the main article, and will soon be deleted as an abandoned Afc draft. These two articles really should be merged. Is there someone at this Wikiproject who knows how to do this and would be interested in working on it? —Anne Delong (talk) 23:14, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, Bill. I'm not sure either. There's WP:Merge, but it talks about two existing articles rather than one article and one draft. I have left a message at Wikipedia:Help desk#Rescuing information and sources from a page that may be deleted; maybe we can get some advice. Name of Kerala Legislature

Is there a compelling reason why the page for the Kerala Legislative Assembly should be at Kerala Legislature rather than an official name? Hack (talk) 14:14, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi there.

Someone may want to have a look at List of political parties in India and List of recognised political parties in India.

List of political parties in India currently shows a subset of List of recognised political parties in India, when you'd expect it to be the other way around. A lot of the content of List of political parties in India has been cut out. At one time it was basically the same as List of recognised political parties in India but with an additional list, of all the unrecognised parties. The national parties were removed at some point and the unrecognised parties were removed with this edit.

I can kinda see why the list of unrecognsed parties was removed. It looks rather long and pointless... but if we are not going to have it then what is the point in two separate articles?

Perhaps the best solution for unrecognised parties is to list only notable ones, i.e. those with there own article.

Anyone got an opinion on this?

Leaflet for Wikiproject Indian Politics at Wikimania 2014

Hi all,

My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.

One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.

This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:

• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film

• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.

• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.

• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____

• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014

For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Expert help needed: POI & OCI

Could some knowledgeable person take a look at the following articles: Persons of Indian Origin Card, Indian nationality law and Non-resident Indian and person of Indian origin - and update these articles in light of the changes following the Person of Indian Origin Card (PIO Card) Amendment Scheme, 2014, and the merger of the Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) categories (see: [4], [5], [6]). There also still seems to be a lot of outdated information on the web regarding this topic - including on many official Government of India websites. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   10:58, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

I've started an RfC on changing the election/referendum naming format to move the year to the front (so e.g. French presidential election, 2017 becomes 2017 French presidential election). All comments welcome here. Cheers, Number 57 20:48, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

This RfC has been reopened for further comment, including on using a bot to move the articles if it closed in favour of the change: Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (government and legislation)#Proposed change to election/referendum naming format. Cheers, Number 57 15:16, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Look:

is the most active user in the history of

but we can’t see any contribution by said user to the talk page. Moreover, the user seemingly does nothing but reverts others’ edits and also was observed to submit a questionable report against an opposing user as a vandal. I request an intervention by people who could understand what is going on with the article at first, and with the user also. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 15:14, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

The person i have been reverting recently have been carrying out the same edits over and over again without explanation and in spite of being given warnings, and i reported this user less than an hour ago for his behaviour. If you are going to come with accusations you better have oversight of the whole picture first! One of my main tasks is to counter disruptive editing and vandalism, which is excactly what i have been doing in this case! Vif12vf/Tiberius (talk) 15:18, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
